About this listen

Speak your mind effectively! The best, most direct way to convey your intelligence, expertise, professionalism, and personality to other people is through talking to them. But most people have no idea what they sound like. And even if they do, they don’t think they can change it.

It’s the Way You Say It is a thorough, nuts-and-bolts guide to becoming aware and taking control of how you communicate with others. Dr. Carol Fleming provides detailed advice and scores of exercises for:

  • Understanding how others hear you
  • Dealing with specific speech problems
  • Varying your vocal patterns to make your speech more dynamic
  • Using grammar and vocabulary to increase your clarity and impact
  • Reinforcing your message with nonverbal cues
  • Conquering stage fright

An entire section of the audiobook focuses on communication issues in the workplace - interviews, presentations, voice mail, and more. Dr. Fleming puts a human face on her advice through vivid before-and-after stories of 40 men and women who came to her for help...

Critic reviews

"No other skills will position you ahead of your competition as much as good speaking and presentation skills. No book approaches the depth and breadth of Dr. Carol Fleming’s It’s the Way You Say It." (Patricia Fripp, CSP, CPAE, keynote speaker, executive speech coach, and president of Fripp & Associates)

I'm sorry. But this is the first of over 80 books

I chose the book to help me to be more comfortable speaking in public. the content seems to be good but ,try as I might, I can't get past the authors voice. I make about 10 minute tolerance before I'm too annoyed to listen. would love to hear this with someone else reading.

This book is too wordy

This woman is long winded and she does not, in any way, help a person with speech. Less storytelling and more attention to actual lessons on speech correction. Also, the chapters are listed wrong within the audio and some of the chapter titles she references do not exist with the book

misleading book description / Publisher's summary.

Would you try another book from Carol A Fleming PhD and/or Carol A Fleming PhD?

No

What could Carol A Fleming PhD have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Only if she went right to the point she was trying to make instead of overly explaining the subject matter.

How could the performance have been better?

This book should not have been narrated by the author. She clearly has a very obvious lisp herself, I am amazed as good as she says she is in helping others how come she has not corrected her own speech defect.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Anger for presenting this book as something it is not.

I barely made it 5 minutes in

the narrorator is completely terrible. pauses at strange moments, makes to many unnecessary noises, and the sickening noise of flem in her voice is so irritating I couldn't continue.

Poorly read, AWFUL voice, repetitive wording. BAD

this is FULL of speaking errors such as pronunciation and repetitive words. instead of her say "she did fine" she adds unnecessary words such as "she did PERFECTLY fine".
