About this listen

Once, Dr. Emil Euler Ganz was a preeminent astrophysicist with a world-renowned reputation. But then he vanished without any warning to his family or colleagues. Fifteen years later, he reappeared as "Father Jupiter", the founder and charismatic leader of the scientific cult, The Order of the Rings. And now he's dead - a vial of sleeping pills and an empty bottle of vodka standing near his lifeless body.

Was Ganz's death an accident? Suicide? Or did someone hasten Jupiter prematurely out of this world? These are the questions LAPD Lieutenant Peter Decker and his Homicide team are determined to answer as they enter the cult's fortresslike compound. But the dead leader's four "privileged" attendants make it clear that the police are not welcome there - and the mysterious disappearance of two of the Order's members, including a child, turns an already uncomfortable situation even uglier and more incendiary.

Decker will need more than the wisdom and support of his wife, Rina Lazarus, to defuse a ticking time bomb of jealousy, greed, bizarre hidden pasts, and deadly secrets - one that could explode at any time into mayhem so pernicious that it threatens to destroy a multitude of misguided lives - and scores of helpless, innocent children as well.

Great series!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, I love this series by Faye Kellerman

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

The plots are usually a bit predictable but I love how the Lt Detective Decker solves them.

Which scene was your favorite?

Too many to mention.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The hospital scene.

Any additional comments?

Mitch Greenberg is an awesome speaker. He really gets into each character. His voice fluctuations really help determine and create each character. A fabulous reader!!!! I would read any book he read.

Bones a la Kellerman

The twists and turns of this plot were particularly complex. Marge featured large in this Decker/Lazarus; Marge is a favorite of mine. Jacob and Sammy have interesting parts to play. I continue to be delighted by Hannah Rosen. Clearly I am addicted to this series. Oh yes, I give Mitch Greenberg another five stars👍

I love this series!

What more can I say about this series that I haven’t already said? I love it!

Book 11 is right in line with previous instalments: interesting updates in lives of Peter & Rina and their children, plus a riveting criminal case in Peter’s work life.

I have to admit that I don’t always care for the cop story lines, but the developments in their personal storylines are very compelling; it's definitely that aspect that keeps me coming back for more!

Out of this world!

The careful research and story spun so intricately around the sect kept me guessing. Dramatic and exciting from the first sentence.

dull mystery; good family drama

The mystery, or exploration of the crime is lacking. In fact I would call it boring. Plus Rina is missing for most of the book which is disappointing.

However, the relationship between Peter and Rina's boys is more fully explored than in any of the previous novels. I think perhaps this story exposed some problems that will be explored in the future books of the series. As a parent I look forward to seeing a bit of the tensions that parents experience as that makes the characters more real to me.
