About this listen

A brand new finger-lickin' good mystery featuring small-town Georgia spice shop owner Piper Prescott, a smart and spunky amateur sleuth.

Spices are flying off the shelves of Spice It Up!, and Piper Prescott couldn’t be happier. It's that time of year again - time for the annual Brandywine Creek Barbecue Festival. Soon contestants and BBQ aficionados from all over the Southeast will converge on the town. Many of Brandywine Creek's citizens plan to participate in the week-long festivities and are busily concocting savory rubs and sassy sauces. Among the locals vying for the grand prize are Becca Dapkins and Maybelle Humphries. The women have been arch enemies ever since Buzz Oliver dumped Maybelle after a 13-year courtship and started seeing Becca. When Becca's body is found near one of the festival booths, bludgeoned by a brisket, Maybelle becomes one of Chief Wyatt McBride's top suspects. Determined to help clear her friend's name, Piper begins her own investigation, much to McBride's consternation. As the festival draws closer, will Piper and Reba Mae be able to find the real killer and clear Maybelle's name? Will Piper make it to the annual shag contest with Doug Winters, the mild-mannered vet she's been seeing? And, who will win the BBQ cook-off?

Pleasant book when you don't want to think hard

GRRRRR. Audible has this listed as Book 1 in the series when it's really Book 2. Getting past my anger at their mistake, I waded through this light-hearted story about an amateur detective in a small Southern town. It was a PG rated Mayberry story wrapped in a food premise. All of these are right up my alley. What this booked really lacked was drama and tension. They were replaced with mild humor and cooking advice. So if you're looking for a story that will not tax your brain or raise your adrenalin, look no further. If you like to cook, like me, so much the better.

Enjoyed the story and narration!

Enjoyed the story and narration! Very easy to listen to. And really liked the recipes at the end. That was a pleasant surprise. Only one negative for me... I don't need profanity to get the point!

Really enjoyed this one

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes I would recommend this to a friend. Perhaps this was written to more of a woman's view but I enjoyed it very much.

Any additional comments?

Fun story, Well developed characters. Great performance.

There are no bones in brisket, y'all.

Other than a few research goofs (or rather, non-researched) that I found distracting, this was a nice easy listen. Some of the female friends were hard to keep track of (with small town Georgia double-names)
The narrator did a fine job and I didn't guess the ending.
