About this listen

An emotional, irresistible second-chance romance filled with sparkling humor, big feelings, and "melt your face off intimacy" (Jessica Joyce) from celebrated USA Today bestselling author Tarah DeWitt.

This time, they'll get it right.

Wren and Ellis Byrd fell in love as kids, had their son Sam when they were only teenagers, and built a life together in the coastal town of Spunes, Oregon. They were made for one another . . . until they fell apart. Now divorced and in their 30s, Wren runs the bakery in town, while Ellis works as a firefighter. They live separate lives, though they are hardly off each other’s minds.

When Ellis and Wren move Sam into college, Ellis convinces Wren to take an extended road trip back to Spunes to see if they can give their relationship one last chance. Amid the gorgeous California coastline and the intimacy they have missed for years, Wren starts to think it just might be possible. But can the past truly be left behind? When words fail and old wounds resurface, it’s a soul-baring letter that could finally reveal the truth—or close the door on them forever.

Critic reviews

Tarah weaves pure magic! Left of Forever is my favorite type of love story. The perfect blend of realistic and endlessly romantic.”–New York Times bestselling author Elsie Silver

“DeWitt delivers an impeccable second chance romance that snatched me off real life and had me breathless until I turned the last page. I’m hopeless when it comes to beautiful prose that makes the world quiet around me, but pair that with a nice dose of angst, spine-tingling steam, and the kind of love that’s etched onto your heart, and I’m yours forever. Truly. That’s how long I plan on keeping Ellis and Wren’s story safely tucked against my chest.”–Elena Armas, New York Times bestselling author of The Spanish Love Deception and The Fiancé Dilemma

“A uniquely immersive love story, with writing that’s both stunningly lyrical and side-splittingly hilarious. I’ve never read a romance like this before, one so intimate and lived-in, with characters who grab your heart on page one and never let go. Tarah DeWitt is a master of emotion. You’ll never look at ice cream the same way again.”–Rachel Lynn Solomon, New York Times bestselling author of Business or Pleasure and The Ex-Talk

This was a very heartfelt and emotional examination of a relationship and what went wrong. Loved being back in Spunes and enjoying the cast of characters from the precious book as well.

Emotional Second Chance

This story is so well written and performed that I could and would not stop listening til the end. It's that perfect combination of sweet, funny, and soul wrenching moving that it just pulls you in and doesn't let go until your smiling at the end. Not only is the story amazing but the performers make it come alive. My only critique would be that I wish I could've heard Ellis's thoughts and feelings more. However, overall I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book!! It has become one of those favorite treasured stories that I'll listen to again and again!

⭐️ 3.5 ⭐️

Wow! So, so dang good! The emotion in this book and invoked by this book were next level. Wren and Ellis has such a unique and special connection and history making their story so much more worth it than a typical second chance romance. Their history broke my heart because of their individual struggles and struggles as a couple. The longing each of them had in the chapter made for poetic internal monologues which I am a sucker for. I loved getting to follow Wren and Ellis fall back in love with each other and the new and healthier versions of themselves they had become.

Tropes:
- second chance
- divorced couple
- road trip
- forced proximity
- emotional
- mutual yearning
- small town

📖 My thoughts:
📚This was such a sweet and swoony second chance romance, chalked full of all the feels and the sweetest roadtrip! Second chance is one of my favorite tropes with that magical mix of history, unresolved feelings, delicious tension, and plenty of pining.

Wren and Ellis grew up together going through all of the changing seasons of childhood sweethearts and young parents with life throwing its inevitable curveballs. Watching them find their way back to each other as adults was like watching two puzzle pieces finally snap into place after too long hovering just out of reach. The way they navigate their shared past while building a new, stronger future was so beautifully written.

🎧 I cannot get enough of Megan Wicks! She has such a sultry tone to her voice that is just so refreshing I could listen for days. Paired with Connor’s velvety goodness they just knocked it out of the park. All of the pining, heart, and heat were elevated to the next level with a wonderful delivery that brought these two to life.

This book had me laughing, smiling, and just overall kicking my feet. I love a good second-chance romance. Ellis and Wren were made for each other—their chemistry and banter were perfect. I love how they found their way back to one another. The way these two expressed themselves warmed my heart. The slow burn in this book was everything I needed. I’ll be recommending it always.
