About this listen

After container ships carrying black-market nuclear bombs are detonated in American port cities, millions are killed and the country is thrown into panic.

In Greenwood, Nebraska, Paul Edwards learns about the devastating terrorist attacks on the news. As the power grid goes down, his fear is magnified by the knowledge that his wife and daughter are a thousand miles away in Atlanta.

When his prepper father-in-law, Buck, insists on being part of the rescue, things go from bad to worse. Paul and Buck have hated each other for years. Now, with deadly radiation sweeping in from the coast and the rule of law crumbling around them, the two men must put aside their long-standing feud in a desperate race to bring their family to safety...that is, if they don't kill each other first.

Hoping this won’t happen but much is predictive

Given this was written in 2015 it’s scary where we are now as compared to what is written here. Hoping this isn’t our future.

Amazing story!!

I very much enjoyed this story! Alot of the survival genre gets repetitive after a while but I didn't really find that happening with this. I did think some things were a little over the top. BUT those things are generally true because preppers like the real kind tend to get over the top. I have a friend who is only a little bit into the prepper world and he goes a bit over the top on weird stuff from time to time! So I think it all fit in perfectly with how this story is written and whats taken place. I loved the pace of this and the narration was amazing! Johnny Heller did a killer job on this! :) The first book leaves you with such a cliffhanger so it is great these are in a bundle! The plot twists were amazing to be honest. Alot of that I didn't see coming and it kept the story moving forward with more interest and investment in the characters. I LOVED BUCK!! He is a hoot. Hes like the perfect cranky old man that has so many layers to him. I highly recommend this story!!

Excellent book for younger folks

Well written! Great characters, but a bit stereotypical to an older reader. Ideally, if I had read this when I was about 16 years old....would have been better as I wouldnt have already encountered these familiar character personalities in so many other books, movies, and TV shows over the years. Overall....enjoyable read!

incomplete

many of the TEOTWAKI box set books I've listened to have been 30+ hours. I think there's more that should've been added.

Interesting Twist

Fun and easy to get in to. Ideal for mindless distraction while you're mowing the lawn or on a long commute to or from work.

Book 1 is your typical "SHTF and society falls apart" scenario but book 2 goes in another direction. While some themes are familiar to the genre -- the powerful elite setting up a dictatorship where no one has any rights etc. -- the location is interesting. Some aspects are realistic, others are more like science fiction, but overall it was an enjoyable listen.

The narrator was great, although for some reason his voice had me picturing Anthony Hopkins from Silence of the Lambs. I'm thinking that this would be the perfect narrator to voice a genius psychopath.

I enjoyed listening to this.

It was entertaining and I enjoyed the listen. I wish the series was longer and more detailed.
