Publisher's summary

An enzyme that will dramatically prolong life has been discovered 2,000 feet down in the North Atlantic, in an area known as "Lost City". But why are the people attempting to harvest it getting killed? Why are the scientists in a remote Greek laboratory disappearing one by one? What does this all have to do with a body found frozen in the ice high up in the Alps?

To Kurt Austin, leader of NUMA's Special Assignments Team, and his colleague Joe Zavala, it's clear they have their work cut out for them, but it may be even bigger than they think, in fact, it may be their greatest challenge of all.

Rich with all the hair-raising action and endless imagination that have become Cussler's hallmarks, Lost City is an exceptional thriller.

"[An] excellent series....Kidnappings, hair's-breadth escapes, fierce battles, strange science, beautiful women and plenty of action add up to vintage Cussler." (Publishers Weekly)

The scientist that turned into almost caveman mentality

I loved how they experimented on the scientist and how the Gorgon night seaweed was just gonna take over everything. It was touch and go for many many chapters.

Great story- kept us rivietted,

Strong characters common to this author and interesting plot. We were always sorry when we got to our destination and had to turn it off.

Abridged version lost continuity.

Story somewhat disjointed in presentation. Story line not very believable. Creation of mutated creatures bizarre. Overall, just not as good as most of Cussler's works.

Unsatisfying

The book was formulaic, cliche-ridden, and utterly predictable.

Still, it would have been a fairly good and diverting listen, but for the very poor delivery of the reader. His awful comic-book French and Scottish accents were so bad and off-putting that I tended to focus more on his wandering accent than on what he was saying. Perhaps the reader of the unabridged version was better, but this guy should just stay with his American inflection and admit defeat in the face of 'zee French accent.'
