About this listen

When Karen Paladino, a mild-mannered accountant, started her work week with a simple carpool, who would have know her life would have taken an unexpected turn toward the absurd and the sometimes just plain weird. Thrust blindly into a world of magic she can’t believe or comprehend, Karen is rocketed on a whirlwind journey that will test her sanity her patience and, most importantly, her ability to handle bad puns and pop culture references by a less than amusing mage and his sidekick dragon. In the center of this magical world sits a magical death maze with a locked door that no one can open, and no one knows what treasures it hides. When the evil white hand of Salazar learns of John Harden’s new friend and what she could do, she will stop at nothing to capture her and the door. This story has something for everyone: magic, gods, dragons, vampires, Arthurian legends, and the odd occasional centaur sex joke. Littered with action, sarcasm, bad jokes, and a few heartwarming moments, throw in a tiny dash of romance, and you have a story made for late-night T.V. or at least a straight to home video release.

"Not your mother's magic fantasy!," quoted my mother, and she should know. She’s my mother! "Fascinatingly odd," quoted my fifth-grade math teacher Mrs. Rabinowitz. Come one, come all to a magical adventure fit for a '70s garage sale: Mages Maze.

What a fun Urban-Fantasy.

What a fun "cute" Urban-Fantasy. (That is if you can consider killing and mayhem cute. What can I say, I'm messed up 😉!)
It starts out seemingly like any other day when Karen, MC picks up her friend/coworker to commute to work. Any day, that is 'till she finds him passed out and bleeding out on the street! Karen is a complete "muggle" but upon entering her friends house surprisingly for some reason she sees passed all the glamor and notices the reality of the situation. Hurtling her in a whole new reality. Karen has that sink or swim moment in pit of her stomach when she immediately faces down a fight or die scenario. So she comes out a swingin' with both fists and magic, she learns fast!
Tom Schalk is a purty good narrator too... So if you're looking for a quick read grab this one.

Good introductory story to this author!

This is my first time I have read something by this author. You can tell he loved what he does and the story is a nice, unique story. I loved how it ties in some of the old beasts, and stories. I enjoyed it a lot. It’s been fun.

I love the idea of the dragon that shape shifts, Merlin having descendants, and the item she finds.

Looking forward to: Vivian getting over her anger at Jared. Or calming down. The dragon and the MC getting things figured out. Finding out if the evil lady gets free… also finding out what is driving her. Just some things that leave me wanting more!
