About this listen

FBI agent Alex Cross is on vacation with his family at Disneyland when he gets a call from the Director. A well-known actress was shot outside her home in Beverly Hills. Shortly afterward, an editor for the Los Angeles Times receives an e-mail describing the murder in vivid detail. Alex quickly learns that this is not an isolated incident. The killer, known as Mary Smith, has done this before and plans to kill again. Right from the beginning, this case is like nothing Alex has ever confronted. Is this the plan of an obsessed fan or a spurned actor, or is it part of something much more frightening? And particularly baffling, how could a woman be capable of these vicious crimes? Members of Hollywood's A-list fear they're next on Mary's list, and the case grows by blockbuster proportions as the LAPD and FBI scramble to find a pattern before Mary can send one more chilling update. Filled with the ruthless and shocking twists that make his fans hunger for more, Mary, Mary is James Patterson's most sophisticated thriller yet.©2005 James Patterson (P)2005 Time Warner AudioBooks Police Procedural Suspense Celebrity Mystery Fiction Exciting Scary

Good but not his best

As with all other Alex Cross novels, this one was fast-paced and compelling. However, this novel has some very loose ends that are poorly woven together. Patterson can do (and has done) better.

What, Cross, again? You bet. Another outstanding thriller.Did it drag? Not a bit. Always interesting , always questioning. Complete and startling. Loved it.

Just OK

Not bad, not great either. The basic plot is intriguing. Patterson gets "A" for imagination. However it is too lose and lacks suspense in too many places. A good portion of this book dives into too many aspects of Cross's personal life - which was distracting from the plot, and honestly, rather dull.

Narration is good with sound effects. It's the same guy who has read most of the other Cross books.

Overall, the book gets a passing grade - but you may decide to pass on it.

A Nightmare From Today's Headlines

Would you listen to Mary, Mary again? Why?

Maybe, (Yes); A womans' murderous adventures of the past return to destroy a city.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Mary, Mary?

Finding that love can go awry on so many levels;

What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The Narrators would bring their own tempo to the story; even a new timeline.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

The book could bring the reader to sadness in Alex Cross' life and a place of rejoicing when Mary is caught

Any additional comments?

Mary, Mary. is a very good story. I was pulled into this story as if it was on the daily news. I was really glad it was only a story. I would walk around singing the chorus "Mary, Mary why you bugging" trying to solve the cases in my head. I did enjoy the book quite a bit.

For the True Alex Cross fans!

This book is not for the casual reader of mysteries. This book is for the true Alex Cross fans. This book is a turning point in Alex Cross' life. Yes, there is a murder mystery (a darn good one), but it also focus on Alex Cross' personal life. If you are not an Alex Cross fan, you will probably not appreciate this book. But I found the story truly entertaining and guessing to the end who the killer was. Has a super ending. Enjoy!!!!
