About this listen

The world is a place of magic and wonder as nations struggle against monsters and nature itself to expand into the wilderness. The world is an unfair place where happenstance and the circumstances of your birth can bind you to a life of suffering, servitude, and drudgery.

Both are true for Kaff Aderlai, a talented magic user learning to harness his talents at the Virras Military Academy.

By fate or misfortune, his carefully planned life was upended by the discovery that he had magical talent, forcing him into a world filled with duplicitous nobles, city-destroying monsters, and the very magic used to craft the universe itself.

War looms on the horizon, and Kaff's nation spent a lot of money to train him into a finely tuned weapon. Whether he survives or not, they plan on getting a return on that investment.

Well done!!!

To be honest the book is very well done, narration was spot on. I am looking forward to the next book! I was surprised the other reviewer left such a negative but then again his profile is full of Negative reviews so take what you want from that. This book has depth to it.

Deserves More Attention

The story of Moonstone Path is a bit of a slow burn to start, but the character growth is natural and it was well worth the credit

A Great Start & Hoping for More

I am admittedly *not* a fan of LitRPG/Progression Fantasy, but this story was recommended to me so I gave it a shot.

Luckily, it is light on the numbers and has just enough detail/rules in its magic system to make things interesting. The main character is delightfully frustrating, and his rival is more or less correct when talking about his flaws. Their dynamic has major Top Gun energy and really fun to listen to.

The narration is great, and Austin Rising deals with a lot of voices & accents well!

Hope there is a second volume soon. :)

it was ok

A good book to listen to while you're doing something else. It is a very slow book not a whole lot happens. Wouldn't call it a bad book but not a great quality. I don't know if I would spend a credit on it but it ok.

continuity errors as well as unearned moments

there are name changes and information given then changed later in a passing sentence to fit the plot better.

a character died that we knew for maybe 4 or 5 chapters but so little was known about them and there additude towards our main character was passing acquaintance at best. they died and a whole chapter was dedicated to their death. felt like forced character growth to the fratboy playboy rather than an actual loss to the book.

Needs heavy editing

The audio was well performed. Unfortunately it suffers from poor editing and discontinuity. Cases where one charterers name changes from one chapter to the next and doesn't change back for several chapters. It's mentioned that a very minor character important to the main character has died but is alive again later. Additionally cases where it seems like there are moments where the main is going to go through some form of growth only to go the other way and actually seems to go backwards in character development.

Unfortunate

Interesting premise, straight to audio, I think. Took a chance with a curious magic system and such. Unfortunately, it suffers from some common issues. Silly nonsense, things that occur just because drama is needed. So much potential.
