About this listen

A romping fast-paced fantasy adventure with a ridiculously overpowered main character in the trope of Shrek and One Punch Man.

Book One of a completed duology.

A monster dungeon is all Thomas has ever known. After all, he was born there. Now, at age 14, he’s been solo-clearing all 100 floors of the dungeon for years. The last of his family and friends are about to die off as an eternal void beast tirelessly pursues them. Will they ever escape?

Thomas’ strength is unparalleled, but what does it matter when you’re trapped in an endlessly repeating prison? He would love nothing more than to see the sky for the very first time and find a safe place to settle down. Fate has much more in mind, but her best efforts only go so far when it comes to the overpowered dungeon boy.

Meanwhile, Nell Windborn lives in a tiny village, clustered on the side of the hundred-league-tall cliff. When the villagers run out of water, they attempt a daring plan, only for their best-laid plans to go awry. Nell can’t save them alone, but maybe she won’t have to, as strange new visitors drop from the sky.

Okay, so in the first half of the story, there is a constant change of pov, and i almost dropped this because of it, but when that stops, the story just gets better also im extremely surprised gow good the narration was because usually the authors that do the narration dont do well in my opinion but here it was really good.

Really good!.

This is an excellent story, and I can’t wait for the next book. I was initially hesitant to pick this title up given the author narrated his own book but I was pleasantly surprised, Benjamin did a better job than some of the pros out there.

A great example of the reason I became a fan of LitRPG

I always approach author-narrated audiobooks with a high degree of skepticism. Normally it only takes a couple of minutes of listening to the sample to have that skepticism confirmed.

This time I decided to take a chance and was pleasantly surprised. I’m not saying that this audiobook wouldn’t have been better had it been performed by a talented narrator, because it definitely would have been, but the narration was not a hinderance to the experience and the flaws were easy to ignore.

…And it was far and away better than many performances from the so-called professionals in the GameLit genre. I can’t count how many stories I’ve tried to listen to that were utterly ruined by the likes of Daniel Wisnewski, Jack Voraces, and Wayne Mitchell.

My narration hang-ups aside, this was a fun and engaging book, and if you’re a LitRPG fan you’re unlikely to be disappointed. Definitely worth your credits.

Surprisingly good!

It starts off slow but gets funnier and at the end during the demon fight that was just priceless This is one of those slope runs Where there are times when you might want to think about quitting because it's just so slow but it does pay off in the end

I want to say that I do like the concept of this story and many of the ideas but the execution did not work out. When I choose a book to read about a overpowered character the first thought that comes to my mind is Defiance of the Fall or cradle or a similar story which are awesome stories about Op characters but uncomparable to this one. Where this story mainly fell short was in the story itself about its Op character. This story is not about the mc but about most of the other characters. The story jumps around for over half the book talking about other characters that I have little or no attachment to. There are some funny places in the story that I enjoyed but most of the characters felt Hollow and underdeveloped, even those surrounding the MC. There are some good ideas in this book but the author needs to develop his craft a bit more.

Not for me

For a young adult novel this was quite good. Like many stories in this vein, the main character cannot be the central focus of story. Often overpowered characters. have to be sidelined in order to get the story rolling. Usually the author does this by either, putting some kind of heavy restriction on the main character, such as losing the powers for short time, or they simply focus on other characters, leaving the overpowered character in the background for a while. This story follows the second option. Though the story does drop hints of how it can employ the first option. I have heard this refer to as the superman kryptonite option. We shall see how the next book goes.

Very good overall.

its very hard to enjoy with the constant lisping voice. if you can get past that then the book is decent. As soon as we were introduced to the dungeon and its mechanics i was done with it and couldnt wait for them to leave it,

The author likes the word Fluffy.

Clever, imaginative and a joy to listen to. The narrator has great voices that make it even more intriguing. The dragon voice is my favorite! It is an adventure from start to finish with a great main character. This narrator does NOT have a lisp and this is the first book he has narrated. Enjoy!

Really great story and voicing

The story was acceptable, but a bit all over the place for the first half of the book. It didn't help that most of the characters were indistinguishable from each other in their actions and language, it became kind of obvious that the author has trouble writing a character as someone other than how he would do things. Oddly enough, the thing I had the biggest problem with was the narration. The voices seemed forced and half of them seemed over the top. As an aside, the narrator sounds a bit like one of the hosts of "Good Mythical Morning" (not a good or bad thing, just a thing)

it was decent

It's a simple enough story, OP character is trying to live his life when BS keeps on getting in his way and he couldn't possibly leave it be. I can't wait for the next installment!

One Punch Man!
