About this listen

A child disappears. A foster mother faces an impossible choice. A baby’s future hangs in the balance.

When Deb Moerke and her husband decided to become foster parents, they never imagined how their lives would change. And never did they imagine their worst nightmare coming true: Their five-year-old foster daughter, Hannah, murdered at the hands of her birth mom, Karen.

The Moerkes were overwhelmed with horror and grief. And just when they didn’t think they could bear any more, Deb received a phone call from Karen in prison. Facing a life sentence for Hannah’s murder, she was pregnant. And Karen had an incredible request: Would Deb take her unborn baby in and love it as her own?

How would you respond? Could you show God’s love to someone who had hurt you and taken away everything you held dear?

Murder, Motherhood, and Miraculous Grace is an unbelievable true story of faith, family, and a journey toward seemingly impossible forgiveness. A story that tests the limits of the human heart, it’s ultimately a beautiful, life-affirming testament to how unconditional love and relentless obedience can transform even the darkest of nights into mornings of hope.

I found it cringy at times , the overwhelming amount of scripture. However, as a true believer in Jesus Christ, I wondered what was bothering me about it. Then it occurred to me that loving, trusting & surrendering to the Lord wasn’t something I’d ever found difficult to do. Because we are all born at different stages of faith. Our souls journey never ending. This current life is another lesson on our souls journey. We all arrive here with an individual goal, predetermined. Something we need to work on & towards. We are all connected as one, created by God. We are love & light. Objective love, in our human story, is what we’re to strive for. That means compassion, empathy, forgiveness, humility, courage, strength, peace, gratitude & joy. Now. In this life. Not a promise of fulfillment later.

This book is a powerful read of love and forgiveness. It tells the story of Debra, who is faced with unfathomable pain and, despite judgment and loss of her own reputation, chose forgiveness. I love that it is a true story from the town of Casper, WY... I was born there and have a lot of family still there. The places she describes are familiar. Kudos to this author and her family!
