About this listen

It should have been just another Monday. Another humdrum day in a long string of boring days spent at the office, drooling over the girl of his dreams. Bobby’s regular routine of getting ready for work and the lackluster life spent in a cubicle are hilariously detailed as Bobby finds himself bouncing between the day’s activities and strange semi-lucid moments of sounds and images that he can’t quite make sense of.

Join Bobby as he struggles to piece together the curious chaos all around him, while reliving moments of the day in comedic clarity in My Short Life as a Zombie.

Hillariously good! Love the raw humor throughout!

Great story! It's raw humor made me laugh numerous times while listening. I also enjoyed Eric's performance with his Chicago accent! Great work guys!

Clever story

What I loved most about the story was the humor and the flow of the story. The narrator did a great job reading and he did some really good voice work.

Must Read Zombie Book!

This book is outstandingly fresh. It takes the zombie genre a step further. Enjoyed the Steven King and Clive Barker feel to the story.

Comic-Book Style Writing

My Short Life as a Zombie is just that. It tells Bobby’s short life as a zombie. I’ve never read anything by Rios before, but I really enjoyed this one. I don’t know if it would have been enjoyable if it had been a full-length book either. The shortness and knowing that it was going to be a quick read made this one jump off the pages for me.

Bobby as a character was interesting. It kept jumping back and forth to his seemingly mundane life and his “new” life after things went to hell. I like that we’re introduced to him, we even get to follow his quest to talk to this girl. And at the very end, the whole thing is brought full circle.

The narration really shines here. At times, I think that Rios’ writing was a bit choppy (that happens when you’re trying to keep things short), but Shelman was able to help navigate through the chop. At times I almost felt like this had a comic book-style of writing to it (which when read aloud can be choppy as well). But instead of that bothering me, I just chalked it up as the style Rios was going for.

Overall, My Short Life As A Zombie is a book I’m glad I read. I flew through it in one sitting and it kept my attention the whole time. I was invested in Bobby enough that I wanted to know how it ended, but when it ended I wasn’t like “oh my god, I cannot believe he’s done this!”
