About this listen

It's the start of Hollywood on Hudson, and New York City is swept up in the glamour. Every night, the red carpet rolls out for movie stars arriving at premieres in limos; the most exclusive restaurants close for private parties for wealthy producers and preeminent directors; and thousands of fans gather with the paparazzi, hoping to catch a glimpse of the most famous and beautiful faces in the world. With this many celebrities in town, special task force NYPD Red is on high alert - and they can't afford to make a single mistake.

Then a world-renowned producer fatally collapses at his power breakfast, and top NYPD Red Detective Zach Jordan is the first one on the scene. Zach works with his beautiful new partner, Detective Kylie MacDonald - who also happens to be his ex-girlfriend - to discover who the murderer might be. But this is only the beginning: the most brutal, public, and horrifyingly spectacular crimes they've ever encountered are about to send all of New York into chaos, putting NYPD Red on the ropes.

Zach and Kylie know there's no way of telling what a killer this deranged will do next. With the whole world watching, they have to find a way to stop a psychopath who has scripted his finale down to the last explosive detail. With larger-than-life action, relentless speed, and white-knuckle twists, NYPD Red is the next mega-blockbuster from "The Man Who Can't Miss." (TIME)

Paterson involves Hollywood & New York

Detectives Zach and Kiely are on the special task force, NYPD Red, a police force that protects all the big stars and Hollywood type events happening in New York City. With everybody enjoying a huge breakfast event, a big time producer collapses, dying of poisoning. This begins a spree of killings by a psychopathic couple who are seeing all of these events as a movie script playing out in their minds.

Zach and Kiely have a history as a couple, but now Kiely is married to someone in the movie crowd. Threats get too close to home, and their personal lives are at stake. These killers must be stopped before they make a grand finale for their psycho imaginary movie.

This is your typical Patterson mystery/thriller, and he doesn't fail to come through this time either. Adding the Hollywood events and New York City atmosphere makes this book especially interesting. The relationship of the Zach and Kiely characters adds just the right amount of human interest within a fast passed chase to stop the killers. Another good Patterson book!!

Fascinating

Any additional comments?

Some reviewers say the story is not realistic - but, HEY, its a book meant to entertain and it really does do that. It is fast paced and held my attention from the first page to the last. I gulped it down in one session. The bad guy, Gabe, is cunning and is making a movie his way - in real time with no camera. He is good at what he does. The good guy is Zack, a policeman who is on the trail of the diabolical killer is also good, most of the time, at what he does. I am sorry, but I did not like the "good girl", Kylie, very much even though I think I am supposed to like her. I guess I don't like her because I like Zack so much and he is in love with her, but she is married to someone else. Ironically, I liked the parts where Gabe and his girl friend, Lexie, were speaking the best of all the parts of the book - and there are many great parts. The chapters are short and gripping, the action quick and furious, but not overly gruesome (except for one short part, which I won't put it since it is a spoiler). Really a very entertaining book but not great literature - just enjoy.

Good book. Worth the a read, but no depth.

I was entertained by the story, but the heros and vilians lacked real depth or personalities.

Jay Snyder Wonderful

The other guy not so much. The story was very juvenile with lame gratuitous sex. How many times do we notice "the curve, of her breasts". But Jay is talented enough to carry the load. Probably won't read another co-authored book by this pair.

The story, about two NYC detectives and a serial killer, alternates between a first-person narration and the killer’s story. Exciting right to the end.

Lost Love

If you could sum up NYPD Red in three words, what would they be?

Imaginative, competitive, heroic

If you’ve listened to books by James Patterson and Marshall Karp before, how does this one compare?

First from author's thanks to 1st in series sale.

Which scene was your favorite?

when Zach protects Kaylie at the trash incinerator

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I wanted to increase my reader and author base so this book did both. I liked Edorado voice as Zach (will get more of his work) and Jay did a good job on the chameleon's part (I have another 1st in series from Jay as this did not give him enough room to perform.

The mix of all the characters starts a good series.

Any additional comments?
