Publisher's summary

Something has always been missing from my life. A hole that I could never seem to fill.

When I accidentally turn a coven of witches into nightmares, I find out what that something is.

Magic.

And it turns out, I have a crap load of it. As a latent power awakens deep inside of me, I’m exposed to one of the most powerful and corrupt organizations in the magical world—the Mages’ Guild.

Barely knowing a spell from a few swear words and luck, I won’t be able to evade them alone. And that’s when I meet him. The Rogue Natural. The best and most feared mage in the world.

He’s dangerous, mysterious, and has a vendetta of his own. He is now the only thing between me and magical enslavement.

Great adaptation

I've read the book and listening how Renee Dorian brings to life. She has Penny sounding exactly how I would imagine she would sound like. The cast also did a great job. Keep up the great work. Can't wait to listen to the next book(s).

Good, but Penny is too young & naive

I really enjoyed the previous 3 dramatic audios in the DDVN series so was hopeful I’d enjoy this one too. And while it was OK, Penny and her romance with Emery didn’t sit well with me. Either Penny was written with the personality and behaviors of a perky 12-yr old or she was played that way by the voice actor. I think she’s supposed to be in her early 20’s, maybe 24, while Emery is maybe 28 and has a war-weary persona. I’m glad the romantic scenes didn’t go all in. Hopefully she’ll undergo a serious character arc with lots of growth over the course of this series and will come out less naive and childlike in the end.

Overall, this series still remains well cast and performed. The voices actors and sound effects bring it to life.

Good story but not in cast form

Liked the story, but not a fan of the cast reading and corny music and sound affects.

devil in the details

You need age in the voice of ageless, give story authenticity. Feels like a kid trying to be his dad. The powerhouses walk through time collecting accents as they blen in and there is none of that in this graphic novel. This time the original is far better than this one. Nailed Penny though.

Absolutely Loved It!!!

I really really like this series! It’s so entertaining & fun to listen to the dramatization of the story. It really adds a movie like quality to the story.
That said, I Loved this story! I like Penny a lot. She may be young in age, but she’s much older, & sometimes wiser, in mind & soul. She’s also hilarious & so much fun to follow along with. Her mother is just awesome! She too is much wiser than she appears & acts. I live how she smothers her daughter but still lets her be herself. She’s brilliant in her own way & a crack shot too! After all, practice makes perfect. lol!
Emery is the typical powerful mage with a whole lot of issues all wrapped up as the gorgeous hunk with a bad boy image. What’s not to like about him. :)
After listening to the first 20 minutes, I wanted these two together be together. Their relationship works perfectly, but there’s always that elephant in the room that gets in the way. But that’s what makes for an engaging story, which I totally enjoy reading/listening to.
This story weaves into Reagan Sommerset’s storyline well. I can see where the possible direction it can go towards & it will be a spectacular ending to a great series! Looking forward ti that & I can’t wait to listen to the next book in the series.

It's Great!!

DDVN series is one of my favorites and I'm so happy they are doing a dramatized version of each book. I'm about halfway thru and feeling disappointed that the other book's dramatized adaptations haven't been released. Alas, I will just need to relisten to the other books until the other dramatized books come out 😆

Characters that made me smile

While Penny is great as is Emery,, Penny's mom is Fantastic! The actress that portrays her reminds me of "Miss Patty" from my favorite TV show (Not going to use the name of the show but here's a hint: Mother & Daughter who grow up together and an obsessive need for coffee). It's a completely smile worthy story. Worth a listen and a read.
