About this listen

Discover a new middle-grade fantasy saga from Melissa de la Cruz, the number one New York Times best-selling author of the Descendants series, with Never After: The Stolen Slippers, where real life and fairy tales collide!

Tossed back into the not-so-familiar fairy-tale world of Never After, Filomena Jefferson-Cho and her friends set off on another adventure...this time in search of Cinderella’s glass slipper. Or rather, glass slippers.

It turns out the classic story of Cinderella is full of lies - starting with how Cinderella herself is far from the innocent heroine everyone thinks she is. She is manipulative and cunning - willing to do anything to be the princess of Eastphalia. The real heroines of her story are her “wicked” stepsisters, Hortense and Beatrice, who aren’t actually wicked at all!

With the help of the dashing Jack Stalker, adorable Alastair, and glamorous Gretel, Filomena must track down the slippers, which may be the key to a certain mysterious prophecy.... And when Filomena and Beatrice get tossed into the Beast’s dungeon, all hope seems to be lost. Will the conniving Cinderella shatter everyone’s hopes for a true un-twisted ending? Or will Filomena and her friends secure the happily ever after Cinderella’s stepsisters deserve?

Another story set straight.

This book makes many references to the first one, which is far better. This one is not as entertaining, but the performance is very good.

Not as good as the first book.

I didn't like the first book, but for some reason I held out hope for this one because the Premise was good. But once again the execution was terrible.

Besides the young age of the characters and an annoyingly whining 12 yr old lead character the biggest problem with the book is the author's own arrogance.

She never once let's you forget what a "great" writer she is. In every paragraph it seems like she has to literally mention how great her book series is, we really must read the other books in the series to appreciate what's happening and yes there are still more books to come.

I general hate 4th wall breaking amd I get the conceit of the story is, it's a "what if your favorite book was real" premise. But come on,

The constant self congratulations, was out of control. I never once felt like I was reading a book. It was reading a press release.
