Lost?
Wandering, looking for a new world to explore?
New characters to meet? New evils to hate, new loves to melt into?
Look no further, friend. Welcome to New Worlds, a collection of short stories and novel samples from Amazon and USA Today best-selling author Chris Philbrook.
From zombie apocalypse to hard science fiction, urban fantasy to Lovecraftian gothic horror, Chris' writing surely offers you something to enjoy. New Worlds features several short stories; "The Mother in the Lake" (a Lovecraft-inspired tale told by a teenage girl about her family and their lake house), "Roots Grown Deep" (a dark fantasy story about a tree deep in the woods that hungers for far more than water and sun), "Yerba Mate" (an urban fantasy yarn about goblins with an addiction to caffeine), and "Phil's Story" (a dark tale about a man working in a gun shop on the day the zombies rise).
New Worlds also has the first five chapters of the military space opera Colony Lost, the modern Lovecraftian horror The Awakening, and the young-adult dystopian novel The Phone. From The Reemergence series, to Adrian's Undead Diary, The Dry Earth, Elmoryn's Kinless Trilogy, to his space opera epic The Ghara Chronicles, fans have been loving, sharing, and celebrating Chris' works for more than 10 years now.

I found, true to Chris philbrook form, excellent character development. Chris has a way of writing a story and absolutely hooking you immediately. you become very invested in all of his characters, I have found this with every book of his that I have read. my only problem with this book is the narrator. I was probably extremely spoiled to James Anderson Foster who did all of the undead diary series until the last book. the narrator has excellent voices and does a great job with the characters , however his actual narration is very irritating. it sounds as if he did not proofread the book, mispronounces words and takes pauses at very awkward moments. all in all I think this is an excellent book with very good stories worth the read if you're looking for new books to buy!
Chris philbrook is an amazing author!

so I’ll call it worth it for the Daily Deal. To the extent this sought to stoke my appetite for the related series, however, I’d say this had the opposite effect.
On the plus side, the stories are separated and labeled in the Table of Contents. The author introduces each story to give a little context and tells you what series they’re connected to.
On the downside, only the horror shorts drew me in. The rest of the stories were on the bland end.
1. Awakening 71 minutes - merely the promise of horrors to come, with some F bombs
⭐️2. Mother in the Lake 19 minutes - short, creepy, and nicely Lovecraftian- my favorite of the bunch
3. Colony Lost 1 hr 45 min - a slice of military space life - did nothing for me, and I like that genre
⭐️4. Roots Grown Deep - 42 min - bloody good time with Grimm Fairy Tale vibes
⭐️5. Yerba Mate 23 min - a pop of urban fantasy and monster mayhem- liked this, but I found book 1 of the Reemergence series this connects to juvenile, mouthy, and misogynistic
6. The Phone 47 min - it was alright as a dystopian story for teens, but I doubt I’ll move on to the Dry Earth trilogy starring this MC
7. Phil’s Story 52 min - I expected more horror, suspense, and action with an MC in a gun shop when zombies appear
Sampler didn’t sell me on the author’s series
