About this listen

Emma has just learned that her mother is a long-lost Poseidon princess and now struggles with an identity crisis. As a half-breed, she’s a freak in the human world and an abomination in the Syrena realm. Syrena law states that all half-breeds should be put to death.

As if that’s not bad enough, her mother’s reappearance in the Syrena world turns the two kingdoms - Poseidon and Triton - against one another. That leaves Emma with a decision to make: Should she comply with Galen’s request to keep herself safe and just hope for the best? Or should she risk it all and reveal herself - and her gift - to save a people she’s never known?

Once again, Anna Banks infuses Emma and Galen’s points of view with humor, intrigue, and waves of romance.

The characters were working my nerves

I really don't have time for characters who are stubborn and hard headed to the point that they are making life more difficult for everyone around them. Especially when they don't have really any concrete reason to be so resistant. It is a weak plot device and poor, frustrating writing. In the first book I could agree with the main characters stubbornness, distrust, and refusal to follow the male leads orders because he was withholding information and they'd just met, but at this point all of the distrust and stubbornness is really happening just to make the story longer. Lazy, frustrating writing that almost kept me from finishing this book which is otherwise really good.

A great fishy tale!! :)

My Thoughts - 4 out of 5 Unicorns - I really liked it!!!

Okay, I picked up this book from Audible since I knew I had the first book in audiobook form from SYNC.

First, I love that it is the same narrator because I was already use to her style and voices for her of the characters :) I really like listening to audiobooks as a way to get my book fix when I’m busy doing other things and can’t focus on reading. I get to multitask this way. I usually have two audiobooks going as the same time. One I listen to in the car with my son, and another I listen to from my computer.

Anna has created a beautiful world, but it does have its perils that must be transverse. She does a wonderful job weaving her words in a great story.

Emma is a great heroine in the story, and she is always protective of life which I love. She won’t let people railroad her and always sticks to her guns when it is something she feels is important. Her gift is amazing. Of course new things are happening in the Syrena world. Some things I loved and could see coming, and other things, I was screaming and yelling Nooo!!! Lots of action, turmoil, drama, and so much more! I can’t wait to listen to book 3 which I already have!!

I recommend this series to YA lovers who like fishy tales ;)

Interesting world

But the female characters logic is very cringy. A photo or a public meeting would have solved a lot of their problems. But other than that I enjoyed the story.

The catch phrases….

Emma’s catchphrase of “oh my sweet goodness” made me want to throw my device against the wall. Story was fine, it’s an easy beach or listen to just follow a story. Could’ve used more development and could’ve actually written out what the biggest plot line of the book was.

They should have used two voices man and woman. Makes for a much better listen experience.

another great story but stupid lead character

I want to know why authors write week lead female characters. The story is great but Emma is literally stupid and has no common sense and doesn't know how to navigate her own emotions or feelings. She is easily led astray by the input anybody gives her, changing her mind about what she perceives as her feelings. If you really love somebody you don't let a 5-minute conversation with your mom convince you he's been fooling you this whole time just to set her up. You fight for what you love. she's gullible and I can't stand her and it makes listening to the story painful
