About this listen

Embrace your demons to thrive.

With Earth under invasion and no home to return to, Rinyv seeks refuge with her childhood friend, Minato Herman. Grateful for the Hermans' hospitality, she becomes their guardian, shielding them from the horrors outside.

As weeks pass without help arriving, hope dwindles and despair tightens its grip. To make matters worse, a terrifying creature obliterates their sanctuary one night, thrusting Rinyv and Minato into a world filled with dangers.

Everything spirals out of control when their bond starts to fracture, and now the girl finds herself compelled to heed the moontarian weapon's call—revive your darkest demon: Annette Valmar.

Fun alien horror, and a terrible love interest

The second volume of the series is more fast pace all the way compare to the first volume. I overall had some fun with the wackiness and brutality with a cool final battle at the end. The new character is a welcome addition and the pacing was nice for the most part. The narrator was also solid, for the most part.

Some of the negative is how quickly they speed run what happen in between the first and second book and just quickly explain what happening now instead if getting a solid foundation of the world building.

The narrator is good for the most part but her sound effect and screaming is laughable.

The major negative that dissuade from continuing the series is the love interest Minato being terrible. Let put aside morality in a fantasy horror sci-fi story. I have no problem with the age different and there an argument that Rinyv never actually grew up, but the chemistry feel like a mom and a child half the time. It just Minato being annoying and getting angry at Rinyv half the time for legitimate reason and half the time because he want to whine about being treated like a kid that need protection due to being a kid that need protection. I wanted to like Minato since he is a weeb gamer, but his existence is enough for me to not continue with the story due to how unlikable he is.
