About this listen

NAACP nominee and USA Today best-selling author Beverly Jenkins celebrates her beloved Blessings series with a heartwarming novel set in Henry Adams, Kansas.

“If you haven’t yet gotten your hands on [this] author’s work, you should do so immediately.” (Shondaland)

Citizens of Henry Adams, Kansas, know there’s never a dull moment in their small town....

Trent July has been the mayor of this historic town for the past four years, but now he’s ready to let someone else take up the mantle. Barrett Payne, a former Marine, decides he wants the job. But when a surprise candidate also enters the ring, the town has opinions on who would be the best candidate.

And of course that’s not the only drama, as Malachi “Mal” July continues to make reparations for the damage he’s caused and to the people he’s betrayed, especially his lady love Bernadine. Is she finally ready to forgive him and let the past go?

As the residents of Henry Adams have learned, life will throw obstacles their way, but it’s how they come together and rise above these challenges that keep the bonds of their close-knit community strong.

I enjoyed the story. I bought the book and listened to it on Audible because I enjoyed the story so much. Beverly Jenkins does not disappoint me ever. There are many exciting moments in the book with the help of first rate dialogue, skilled writing techniques to build tension between characters leading to unexpected and "didn't see that comings climaxes, I was pleased, and go so far as to say "happy". You could have knocked me over with a feather when I read/heard the ending. The narrator has improved from poor to average, and unfortunately this does take away from a great story. Hopefully she is working on improving the voices of the male characters to give them dimension, to make them attractive and approachable, instead of grating. The voices for Mal and Barrett sounded the same, which made me want to put my hands over my ears. However, she nailed Riley! If the narrator would limiting the cute little girl voices to the kids and teenage girl characters that would be great. It was hard to take Lily serious with the voice she was given. Tamara's voice needs to sound like the vigorous, healthy, dynamic sage that she is, and not a little ole lady. Please add grown women voices to the adult women characters.

Enjoyable

Once again Henry Adams and the residents did not disappoint. I think I held my breath through the last 2 chapters. I am ready for the continuing saga of Henry Adams and the residents NOW. Miss Beverly, please hurry - don't rush - but please hurry with the next installment! What an enjoyable series. YOU ROCK and so does Henry Adams!

This is one of my favorite series. I've the town and the people of Henry Adams. I love the whole Blessings series each book is like sitting on the couch looking through old family photos while listening to the elders tell the story behind each picture.
Every time I read or listen to a book in this series I don't want my time there to end.
Do yourself a favor and pick this book or better yet, start with the first book and enjoy your time in Henry Adams, Kansas. You will probably want to move there.

A great visit with old friends!

I was shocked about Mal and the decisions he made. Reilly is the born loser of Henry Adams! Leo is shiffty as ever. I hope this series will not end with the next book....I love Lynnette Freeman's narration.

As usual, I loved it. This series is the best.

This was an awesome story, the way the characters developed and matured. I loved how the towns people were very family oriented and the community passed onto the kids good family values. This will be a hard act to follow! I would definitely listen to this again at a later date!! Kudos to all who contributed. Great job.

A Perfect Ending

I’ve read every book in the series and can’t wait for the next installment to come out later this year. Especially as a former foster youth, I love this book and wish I could live there! I love how the village not only raises the children but also continues raising, nurturing, and nourishing the adults in the series. I love how humor, history, romance, teenage drama, and all the rest find it so into these books, and I highly recommend them! You could start here, but I would recommend going back to book one and reading through the series.

I don’t love the reader, but I was able to read this issue for love of the series. I think books two and three, had a different reader who I preferred. Miss Rodman does not have a wide enough range in variety of voices. Still, she does a good job, and the series is well worth looking past this challenge.
