About this listen

One Breath at a Time: Buddhism and the Twelve Steps has established itself as a classic, a bellwether of the most significant recovery movement of the 21st century, combining Buddhist mindfulness practices with a 12-step recovery program.

Published in 2004, One Breath at a Time has never lost its place as the best-selling Buddhist recovery book. We are proud to present an audio edition of this transformative work.

What gives the book its enduring value is Griffin's intimate and revealing tales of his own and other's addiction and recovery, combined with his unique capacity to translate traditional 12-step concepts like powerlessness, higher power, and character defects into meaningful contemporary terms. He explores all this through the lens of the core concepts of Buddhism: the Four Noble Truths, the Eightfold Path, mindfulness, loving-kindness, and more. The result is a book that has transformed the lives of thousands of addicts and alcoholics.

Narrated by Kevin himself, the audio version brings this classic book to life.

Keeps me centered

I Love the narrator. He super slow and consistent. Good for me to slow the brain down and just be.

not enough thank yous

I had no idea my thoughts aligned with Buddhism. I thought I was just weird and different. i picked your book because I'm an alcoholic who is trying to recover. Everyone keeps telling me AA! You need AA! But I couldn't get past the religion no matter what. So I came across this Audible book and it was like an epiphany! What? There is an entire group of people that believe in Buddhism and its the same basic concept as how I feel. Have I been under a rock? maybe. Anyway, thank you a million thank yous for making this Audible book. It's been a great help to me. I plan on listening to it more than once.

Love this so much!

I've been in recovery a long time and the simple way he soaks to our common experience is beautiful. Kevin has described truths I've come to on my own but had never really put words to. This is so validating and refreshing. It also makes clear again that membership does not dictate belief in any way you are free to believe whatever you do or don't and it is still the most spiritual amazing ride ever. Thank you Kevin.

Narration is no problem ...

Not certain why people complain about the narration. If Kevin’s voice is not suitable for the narration of his own book, then Jack Kornfield is no less handicapped. I found the narration relaxed and appropriate for us anxiety-ridden types.

good book

as someone in recovery I really enjoyed this book. I've seen in some of the comments, lots of people complaining about his monotonous voice. This is easily fixed by ramping up the speed. I listened at 1.3 and it was fine.
