But Kharl is now a famous and feared public figure, the Lord's Mage, and his notoriety makes him uncomfortable. To his surprise, Kharl is soon called upon again by Lords Ghrant and Hagen. Back in his hometown of Brysta, he discovers that his old enemy Egen is engaged in a plot with the Hamorians to take the throne from his father and open Nordla to the enemy. Vintage Modesitt, but this book and the first (Wellspring of Chaos) are two of my absolute favorites. I really appreciated the maturity of cooper Kharl. Great supporting cast, too.

One of my favorite stories!

I thought it was weird that Kharl kind of just got over his family's deaths. Just weird.

Excellent performance, good story.

Excellent narrator, very entertaining. The storyline held my attention throughout. Everything a good book should be and a bit more. The saga of Recluce have all been excellent and entertaining. I look forward to hearing the next one!!

I definitely liked the characters in this storyline. I would love to find out what happened once they returned home.

One of my favorites!!!

As always Mr Heyborne gives a fantastic performance to another great piece of the ongoing story of Recluce. I keep wondering when things will get repetative, but they dont! The story evolves, as do Modesitt Jr.'s characters. Thanks & keep up the good works!

another great entry to Recluse story

I needed this one (maybe the last, too? With the cooper) to get me back into the series… I was not enjoying the storyline or characters of the last few, but I really liked this story.

Better than the previous few

Apparently some are good!............

I can listen/read his other entries that are about sexism far more than this one. Maybe even one of the books that are primarily "what the protagonist has for lunch each day" filler book substitutes.

From one of my favorite authors when I started reading Colors of Chaos or Magic Engineer years ago to this disappointing piece.

Pedofiles is the name of this episode.
