About this listen

Thousands of readers have come home to Mitford, the little town with the big heart, whose endearing and eccentric residents have become like family members. But now change is coming to the hamlet. Father Tim, the Episcopal rector, and his wife Cynthia are pondering retirement; a brash new mayoral candidate is calling for aggressive development; a suspicious realtor with plans for a health spa is eyeing the beloved house on the hill; and, worst of all, the Sweet Stuff Bakery may be closing. Meanwhile, ordinary people are leading the extraordinary lives that hundreds of thousands of readers have found so inviting and inspiring. Peopled with the lovable cast of characters familiar to so many, and peppered with plenty of new and colorful personalities, Out to Canaan is filled to the brim with the mysteries and miracles that make everyday life worth living, and that make Mitford one of the most memorable small towns in recent literature.Don't miss out on the rest of Father Tim's adventures in Mitford.©1997 Jan Karon (P)1997 Penguin Audiobooks Christian Fiction Genre Fiction Romance Fiction Small Town Heartfelt

I was disappointed that this audio book was a very abridged version of the book. It was not clear when I was buying it and cost as much as an unabridged book. Not good.

Sadly abridged version

Although it’s always wonderful to hear Jan Karon, my entire family works love to have an unabridged version of this book read by John McDonough !

Unsbridged

I absolutely love Jan Karon! She is one of my very favorite people to read, but I really hate not being able to get an unabridged version of the story. This is probably my favorite book in the series and so much is left out. I would love to have one with the regular narrator and unabridged. It’s also harder to tell when the characters are transitioning in this version.

Need an unabridged version

This was a continuation of the ongoing story of Father Tim, and his wife Cynthia who is perfect for her role as wife and as she calls herself-Deacon. She has a heart as big as Father Tim's. She remains true to herself, but has added the mountain folk to her, already busy schedule. She is a role model for women. You will find pleasure watching Dooley grow while Father Tim and Cynthia nurture, teach, and love each of his siblings, his Pap, and biological mother on this journey. Don't cheat yourselves out of this beautiful story. I have read this one 4 times because it calms the soul through the storms of life.

Another Beautiful writing by Jan Karon

I wish it was the unabridged version. I feel like I lost some of the charm of this fine story

Another story in the life of Father Tim

I did not care for Jan Karon as the narrator. I have all the voices of John McDonough running through my head and hearing her southern accent really threw me. Overall I wish I had just borrowed the book from
the library and read this one myself. Back to John in the next book of the series! Yay!!

Missed John McDonough

We love the Mitford series but rather prefer the male narrator. At times it was difficult know who was speaking and about whom.
Looking forward to the next book!!!!

although this is a shorter but, it still has all the elements of the mitford series that I enjoy. The people and their personalities and their relationships are always enjoyable to me.

Love these Mitford stories!

Several people complained that this was not the full story and music was played in places. But i loved Jan Karon’s voice in this. I loved her Southern accent and felt she was perfect for this book. The book was heart warming. At first the music was annoying, but then i let it go and just enjoyed it.

Wonderful story
