About this listen

Being a normal teenager is hard. For Chance Fortunato, former demon’s apprentice and reforming warlock, it’s almost impossible. On the outs with Shade, his alpha werewolf girlfriend, behind on his magickal studies and still hunted by the Conclave, Chance thinks his life can’t get any worse. But when an empath named Dani asks him to find her missing girlfriend, Chance’s life suddenly spirals out of his control.

Caught by the Conclave, he finds himself facing a Trial by Ordeal. To save himself and his new mentor Dr. Corwyn, Chance must find the stolen Maxilla Asini, a powerful sword that can change the balance of power between the magi and the forces of the Nine Hells. As he searches for the Maxilla and continues his search for the missing girl, he discovers a sinister link between Dani’s abducted girlfriend, the disappearances of other teens in New Essex, and the politics of the local vampire coven.

Caught between multiple forces, Chance soon discovers that his only hope may be the missing Maxilla. With the forces of both good and evil aligned against him, will a bad attitude, the help of his friends, and a little faith be enough to help Chance beat the biggest challenge of his life?

Great Book!

I am honestly amazed as to how much actual occult knowledge and how much pop culture occult knowledge Ben Reeder has. Truly, Bravo Sir. Bravo!

As for the book, thoroughly enjoyed it. Not only are there tie-ins with the first novel, which is something I loved, but the characters are more fleshed out. As one dimensional as the character names are, the actual characters are awesome. The interactions between them will pull your emotions all over the place. It drew me in.

To the potential reader or listener, get this book. If you at all enjoyed The Demon's Apprentice, you will enjoy this book.

Sincerely,

Virgil Allen Moore

Growing up

Some maturity comes along, but not too much. This story jumps around a bit too much, but somehow manages to stick together. Can’t wait for the next book.

Not bad, but still bugs me

This book had the same problems that the last one had, which is to much of a young adult spin to the point where it didn't make sense.

Main character is on a deadline and will die in a week if he doesn't go out and find a thing? Mom knows about it? she grounds him.

This is the kind of stuff that just constantly has me throwing my hands in the air confused as to the thought that went thru making this. There are so many things set up to cause suspense, but then they are ignored to pay attention to something small and overall unimportant in comparison.

still, I like the magical world that has been built. If you are interested in a young Harry Dresden with some high school drama, this is perfect for you.

Recommended.

definite improvement between books

partially as a reflection of Chance's growth the main character not trying is hard to be edgy and dangerous makes his character come across more genuine than the first book did.

Interesting Reads(series)

I found the series interesting... personally not into the subject content, but nevertheless interesting and entertaining... Chance is a real cool dude..I like his character...however you can definitely tell that these are fifteen year old teens.... raging hormones. hormones. hormones..😅

Fun Story

This is one of the stories where thr MC is not perfect. He knows he is a mess and fights to do the right thing. With the mix is humor and action, this is a lot of fun to read. So glad they decided to make the rest of the series available on Audible.
