Publisher's summary

It could be worse. You could be stuck with a literal shoulder demon.

After dying and being reborn into a world that's built like a video game, Jim has found himself stuck in a very old-world style new-player zone for low-level adventurers. Unfortunately, the zone fell out of use centuries ago, and no one told the monsters they were supposed to take it easy on the Noobs. Even worse, the only new player around is Jim.

Jim has been given an opportunity, and he'll do his best to take advantage of it.

Must Listen for RPG Fans

I'm not going to write a lot. It's unnecessary. This is a phenomenal book across the board. I couldn't possibly do it justice. I finished it in two days and have already bought the rest of the series. The story, the humor, and the narrator are all flawless. Seriously, Johnathan McClain as a narrator is better than you can hope to be as a reader. Get the audiobook, put it at the top of your list or just screw your list and start this right away, then thank me later. You're welcome . . . "You gained 20 SP in Negotiation . . .Unskilled."

a fun, if juvenile listen

after struggling to start I eventually synced and thoroughly enjoyed the mindless video game isekai trope. the book ends with some weird, cringe writing about one of the only female characters which I hope isn't continued in the sequels but I'm not holding my breath. ultimately, no one reads isekai, /ESPECIALLY/ videogame isekai expecting amazing writing.

postscript spoiler:

why couldn't that have been the key to the locked cages?

Solid start

Not every book needs to be the next literary classic. Sometimes they can just be fun, and this book is fun. Albeit, the writer has some improvements to make, it was still a good listen that I got through much quicker than I anticipated. Definitely going to listen to the second and see where Jim goes.

If you like ready player 1, you will love this

It’s an amazing book to listen to, but I am sure is even better to read the actual book. I am headed out now to buy a physical copy

Different in a good way

I'm a big LitRPG fan and I am interested to see where this series goes. Yes the trope that the MC gets an OP ability is there, but it is done in a way that makes me wonder how it is going to turn out.

Good story

Interesting, funny and enjoyable tale. Has a few flaws but I am enjoying it overall just started volume 2. I would recommend this to fans of the genre.

A little to short but a damn good listen.

A little to short but a damn good listen, somewhat of a new idea how the unbound skill works. reminds me of The Land with the character build but the fights seem better.
