About this listen

I promised myself ten years ago when I left Bella Port that I would never look back at the town that made me feel invisible—that is until the unthinkable happens and Aunt Mitzi, the person I love more than anyone or anything, suddenly passes away and leaves me everything. We are talking a beautiful beach house, more money than I know what to do with, and of course her beloved bookstore, Paige’s Turn, named after yours truly. Not only that, she thinks she’s left behind something else for me. Or is that someone else? That would be Sam Kennedy, my older brother’s best friend, who’s way out of my league, that is if I even had a league. I’m more like a bystander. But Mitzi was always telling me it was time to get into the game and take my turn.

At least I’m no longer wearing baggy jeans and oversized t-shirts. Yoga really does do a body good. But Mitzi was crazy to think that the sexy landscaper and I were meant to be, especially when I fire him after our first meeting. Who would have ever guessed that a friendship would blossom after such a start? Or that Sam would make me feel seen in a way I had never been before. Was Aunt Mitzi right about Sam and me? Is it finally time for me to take my turn?

Delightfully Charming!!!

I couldn't help but love Paige's character. She's great! She's strong and spunky. I loved that she didn't back down from something that she felt was right. Even if it was hard. She's kind and compassionate. Loving and forgiving. Willing to help and give with no conditions. She's just all around wonderful.

Coming back to her home town after Aunt Mitzi, her beloved Aunt Mitzi who was the only one who saw her since she was little, passed away. Aunt Mitzi left her entire fortune and the family home to Paige. And her darling bookstore, Paige's Turn. Yes, it's named after Paige. We all need a family member who cheers us on and helps us see our worth, preferable many more than just one. I'm grateful Paige at least had her quirky, fun loving Aunt Mitzi. But, unfortunately, she's taking all the backlash for stealing from her family. Yikes! That's rough.

One such person who has her number and is not happy she's back is Sam. And poor Paige, Mitzi is determined to get Sam and Paige together with everything she's got, before she passed away. Hahaha! She's a sneaky one. Oh how I love Aunt Mitzi. Ok, Ms. Peel, please write a story Aunt Mitzi. I know, she's dead. Surely you could be really creative in how to make that work. You are an author, you work with fictional characters and scenarios all the time. ;-)

I loved the narrator of this story. I listened to the audiobook and just love Stefanie Kay so much!!! She has the perfect tone of voice for these characters. She just sounds so sweet! I felt like I was in this little town while I was listening! Seriously, anytime I can read a book narrated by Stefanie Kay, I'm there!

Sam is a sweetheart. Once he gets his facts straight. Aunt Mitzi loved him and can't wait for Paige to discover why he's amazing! The chemistry between them is really sweet. But there's a catch. He's kind of dating another girl. But kind of not. It's complicated. But oh so worth it!

Get ready to enjoy a flashback to a class reunion. Just a little bit of drama associated there...just a little. Ok, maybe a touch more than a little. But get ready for some great scenes!

Overall, I loved this story. There's pain and loss. Sorrow and heartaches. Healing and forgiveness. Friendship and love. Yep. It's got it all!!!

Content: Clean. Some kissing and nothing further.

Happy Listening!!!

Great audio presentation of this book

I had read this book some time ago and decided to try the audio presentation now. Stephanie Kay is terrific and really brings the book to life. It’s like listening in on thoughts and conversations, not someone reading a book whenever she narrates. The story is great of a shy, smart, awkward girl coming home after 10 years as a mature, beautiful, successful, yet still somewhat shy woman who has inherited her beloved aunt’s estate and fortune. This is to the consternation of her family. The book is filled with humor and family dysfunction dynamics that make it a very enjoyable read. I would highly recommend the audiobook in addition to reading the book. Another gem from Jennifer Peel.

(4.5 stars) - the not so ugly duckling

So the story is a tad angsty, and Sam is a leading man with feet of clay, but it's an entertaining sort of 2nd chance story. I've reread it several times & now listened to it, & my rating has gone up each time. It's just so good at making me feel happy.

Love, Love, Love It!

Paige's Turn is such a beautiful story and one of my favorites from Jennifer Peel. The message of loving one's self and believing in your own strength is one that stood valiantly for me. This book is fun, flirty, emotional, and so very real. The magic of love is so tangible...it is breathtaking. Jennifer has a way of making you feel like you are an active participant in the story and Stefanie Kay did a fabulous job bringing it to life. Her voice to this story was absolutely delightful, charming, and transported me to Bella Porte. Each character was brought to life in a way that just made me smile with its perfection.

I 💯 recommend this audio version of Paige's Turn. It was a fabulous listen.

On the Juvenile Side

I really wanted to like this book! But I just didn’t. It’s cheesy, surface-level, and the characters weren’t all that likeable. It’s not bad, but there’s not really anything in there to make me like it either.
