About this listen

Striking beauty comes at a price. Rahab paid it when at the age of 15 she was sold into prostitution by the one man she loved and trusted—her father. With her keen mind and careful planning she turned heartache into success, achieving independence while still young. And she vowed never again to trust a man. Any man. God had other plans. Into the emotional turmoil of her world walked Salmone, a prominent leader of Judah, held in high esteem by all Israel. A man of faith, honor, and pride. An enemy. What is a woman with a wrecked past to do when she wants to be loved, yet no longer believes it possible? The walls of Jericho are only the beginning. The real battle for Rahab will be one of the heart.

I was impressed by the insight, depth and wisdom that this book holds. The author seems to have such an understanding of the female heart.

A book with wisdom

I thought it was a little slow at first, then wasn't sure if I even liked listening to a book being read, but it was quite nice after a couple chapters. As far as the story is concerned, I enjoyed it very much. Many valuable lessons to learn.

This is by far my favorite Biblical fiction story to date. It is also my favorite of Afshar's books. I love the stories of Rahab and the woman at the well because they give evidence of God's love and forgiveness no matter what we've done, but this book brought Rahab into a whole new light. It convicted me from the beginning and held me captive throughout the story. Many times I had to stop what I was doing and just think on what God was working in my heart through the many parallels my life held to hers. Not necessarily in her role as a harlot but as a girl who suffered familial heartache, abandonment of what she grew up being taught to believe in, and the realization of unworthiness. However, I was so convicted by the repentance and dedication of Rahab from the moment she gave her life to the Lord. This story brought about a fresh look at the Biblical account of what many of these real characters could have gone through mentally and probably physically. Thank you Ms Afshar for writing this, and doing it so well. I would love to read more of your books!

Already listened to twice and will again and again!

This historical fiction novel goes far beyond Rahab’s rescue. It follows her into the next season of her life within the Israelite culture. It’s definitely more romance than not although there’s historical and cultural facts woven in. The music between chapters is disrupting and makes the audible version seem more like a soap opera than the written book.

No need for the music
