About this listen
Workplace safety is failing. Despite better procedures now in place on the job, people are still getting hurt. The problem lies in our thinking. We must shift the focus from rules to relationships.
In PeopleWork, author and safety management consultant Kevin Burns presents a people-centered system for the management of the safety program in the workplace. He lays out the practical, how-to steps that frontline supervisors and safety people can master. This promotes a relationship-based culture focused on mentoring, coaching, and inspiring teams. It is an approach that ultimately improves employee productivity and allows everyone to achieve their personal goals and the goals of their company. With PeopleWork, you can raise workplace safety to a level where it actually works.

Let’s face it, change even for the better is hard to do. Doing Safety Differently is a discussion between two friends on what they have learned by watching organizations around the world change the way they do work.

Story
A man finds himself on the top step of a stepladder; a woman removes the guard to her machine; a worker is not wearing her safety glasses in the plant. Why do these folks do these things? One tendency is to blame workers for safety errors and label their personal failings as the cause. Labeling does not solve the problems. These tendencies build dysfunctional management practices that create fear associated with your safety programs. I want to teach you a better way to analyze behaviors to understand why your employees were put in a position to take the risk in the first place.

Story
The safety profession has been stagnant for far too long. Safety folks are abused and misused; they’re often underpaid and overworked; they are undervalued and not appreciated; they find themselves being blamed and shamed when accidents occur; they are torn between the front line and management, they have been forced to knowingly promote flawed, ineffective and disproven safety management systems - to preach from a bible in which they do not believe, and its time for all of that to change.

The Fearless Organization offers practical guidance for teams and organizations who are serious about success in the modern economy. With so much riding on innovation, creativity, and spark, it is essential to attract and retain quality talent, but what good does this talent do if no one is able to speak their mind? The traditional culture of "fitting in" and "going along" spells doom in the knowledge economy. Success requires a continuous influx of new ideas, new challenges, and critical thought, and the interpersonal climate must not suppress, silence, ridicule, or intimidate.

Safety and leadership in one
This book could have been written in half the time. But it included leadership skills along with safety leadership ideas which I appreciated. Even though it was easy to listen to, it gave such good ideas and thoughts that I found my mind wandering with what I had just listen to. I had to re-listen which is good not a complaint. I would recommend this book.
