Jason loves his life as a stay-at-home dad, but being a divorced single father wasn't part of the plan.
Besides his kids, pies are his passion. He makes and sells his creations at the Heartcraft Market, but it's not enough to live off of.
After his father's recent health scare, Nico is determined to help revive their family diner. Then he meets Jason, whose pies are as sweet as he is, and an idea begins to form.
Jason's kids are everything to him, but his bed feels empty at night. Nico has always wanted a family, but he has yet to find a man that he could build a life with. Can a few pies lead to the promise of a future together?
Pies & Promises features two men whose love for family and food brings them together and has plenty of heart and heat baked in. The Heartcraft Market series features interconnected standalone novels that can be enjoyed on their own.

Kevin & Curtis do a beautiful job in making this book come to life. There is no over narration just simply put beautifully done. What a great way to enjoy a low angst story that just has you smiling from start to finish.
Now, this is how you do a single dad romance! Where yes, there is some hesitation but not to hinder the developing relationship. Nico is one of those guys who are all in from the getgo and make Jason able to move forward at his own pace. Then the kiddos they are as big as part of the story as the relationship, and for me, that's the way a single dad romance should be. Kids are a major part of their lives and should be. Without their support, this relationship couldn't have worked as beautifully as it did. It's such a beautiful story.
just fun

I love this book. I've been reading a lot of dark romance lately, and the wholesomeness is shocking. 😆
I've been at work trying to keep the permanent smile off my face from listening to Pies and Promises. It's so fun. This is my second book by Duckie Mack, and I absolutely loved The Daredevil, so I was thrilled when I saw this in the plus catalog. I'm listening to it for free now, but it's one I plan on buying so I can keep it in my hoard.
The narrators did a great job.
I have so much love for this! ❤️

The narration however, is deserving of this three start review. A male narrators ability to sell the story is tested by his success with women and children. Neither are done particularly well here. Not being familiar with either narrator, I couldn't tell you who voiced which guy. That isn't all that important as neither is particularly good at distinguishing between the two male leads, let alone the women and children. For some reason, Nico's narrator gives so many people a Brooklyn-esque sound that is wildly out of place.
The story itself is incredibly low angst, and the reader should have the resolution figured out pretty darn fast. Jason is a struggling bisexual pie baking father who has custody of his two children. Nico wants to grow his family's diner, and since they don't have baked goods, pie is a good idea. I was incredulous that any respectable diner didn't already have pie on the menu, has the author been to a diner? Diners have pie. Nico thinks the pie maker is cute, all that is left is the last six hours of the book.
In the reader's favor is a soft charm about these two guys just doing their thing. Mack keeps the filler to a bare minimum, and the ex-wife isn't a monster, it is literally a slice of life book. Generally recommended.
Pure schmaltz in a flakey crust.
