About this listen

Fresh out of a relationship, Shawnna Green is heartbroken, lost, and almost penniless. She decides to start over in New Orleans to find a new sense of self, despite her ex hampering her progress. With the help of her best friend, Veda, she finds employment at Stumpy's Sex Emporium where she deals with customers that range from the strange to the hilarious.

At the same time, Shawnna discovers that women, sex, and dating, are not what they used to be, but neither is she. In finding herself, she uncovers a part she didn't know existed, and that's not always a good thing.

Can Shawnna pick herself up, reach out, and connect with the people around her?

A smoldering look at the things we hide from ourselves.

Contains mature themes.

The story goes very quick while making some good points. I think everybody could use a friend like Veda. The narrator is becoming a quick favorite of mine.

Enjoyable

We go through the stages of grief with our main character that result from losing a relationship due to cheating, in seeking sex as a quick fix and to avoid the introspection required for a long-term growth, the layers peel off and things devolve quickly. The struggle is real. Our main character finds that more than consent is required. We are wired for connection, the possibility of something that this matters and maybe even love. Is there a sequel? I’m not sure, but there is enough hope that a typical HEA can easily be imagined. The REAL HEA here is self-discovery that leads back to a better place. If you’re going through hell, keep going, and set some clear boundaries while you’re at it. The narration is excellent and I would love to listen to other stories voiced by this artist! Not for the faint of heart but universally for the tainted heart!

A raw and powerful journey from betrayal to sex to hope and the possibility of love again
