About this listen

When an EMP strikes, plunging the West Coast into chaos, Alan Hughes must lead a group of boys stranded far from their Alaskan home, while his wife, Zara, prepares their homestead for long-term survival. With communication down and society crumbling, they face impossible choices in this gripping post-EMP survival thriller. Perfect for fans of EMP survival fiction and dystopian novels, this story dives deep into the challenges of off-grid living, prepping for the end of the world, and the fight for survival against overwhelming odds.

I like apocalyptic stories, so I am pretty versed in the way things go wrong leading to an EMP event. The author took us down the path with a good premise for the story. However, even early in the story you begin to notice a failure to grab the roots of the story and carry through the tough parts. In this case, each time one set of characters comes to a “battle” with the bad guys, the author tip toes around the edge of the event and drops you at the end of it.

Some internal hints:

They sailed on a sailboat that is surprisingly owned by a character they meet…and the ship is amazingly large enough for four adults and a ball team of teen boys! Yachts may not have that kind of room! And do we see (read) a single event of the journey at sea? Nope.

The two character teams are merged back together…around a battle that isn’t even told by having the parties relay how bad it was after it was over. I mean really???? Where is the story? All the lead up only to drop flat. I haven’t read a story this bad in my life. So disappointing. The reader did a good job. But you can’t fix this one

Failed story line

The entire series of "the Sopranos" had less stupidity and foul language than one half chapter of this book was waste your time with money

Can I give this zero stars?
