If you can't stand the heat...

When New York City unveils a program to roast supernaturals, I wonder if I should be sweating.

The bloodthirsty Arnaud thinks so, and he's insisting that our survival depends on a wizard-vampire alliance. Never mind his history of wanting me dead. Or undead.

Meanwhile, the mayor wants me on his team - an offer that's only slightly less unnerving given our recent clash. So who's really behind the purge? City Hall? The werewolves? Or is it the brainchild of the fae, whose newest advisor to the mayor slipped from my bed and life four months ago?

I'm getting the cold feeling someone's trying to manipulate the program, and me, to set off a larger war, one that could explode through the city.

One thing's for sure. If I don't get my head straight and my magic on, it's going to be a hell of a summer.

Adrenaline Thrill Ride

This book was amazing. It checked off so many boxes...there was action and suspense but also some deep emotional moments and an ending that left me wanting more. I love there each book has an ending and I love how each is left with an opening for the next book I love how each is left with an opening for the next book.

WOW, AWESOME. EXCITING ALL THE WAY.

Most enjoyable. Had me glued to the book until the end. Brad Magnarella is a good writer. James Patrick Cronin narrated/performed wonderfully. I like the protagonist. He tries very hard to help and have to deal with obstacles and nasty people around him. The supernatural are also dangerous and it is difficult to trust anybody. A very very good plot and the ending was fantastic. I am looking forward to the next book in the series where Prof Croft has to find the death Mage who is the killer of his mother.

I rarely give 5 stars but Mr. Magnarella surprised

The early third part of this book seems to be roughly pieced together to the middle of the what seemed to be mediocre story but Mr. Magnarella really brought this very enjoyable and partially new story to an old tale. Having some experience with these types of tales and am very rarely shocked by a writer in this genre and the latest to do this is definitely this writer along with James Patrick Cronin which reads this type of stories with great skill and wonderful timing. I have high hopes but not sure just yet if I am ready to bring Mr. Brad Magnarella into the Fold of my Favorite writers in the genre which most would agree that Jim Butcher sits at or near the top (if there is such a thing) a while in his great works which we all wait patiently for Peace Talks. I also truly enjoy Benedict Jacka with his British Time twisting Mage which is pumping out really cleanly written stories very timely.
I truly enjoy the origins of Prof Croft and hopes he continues to write and surprise me with every new tome.
I have high hopes for the new fellow on the block. There seem to be new stories in the genre on a bit of a rise by quantity and I like the way Brad Magnarella weaved his Webb on this ride. Very good so far.
keep'em coming Mr. Magnarella.

Getting Better

I love the fact that he finally put some feeling behind Vegas voice and the storyline is getting better. Looking forward to the rest of the series.

redemption in the end

I almost gave up Prof Croft this time. His infuriating obstinance, inability to see the obvious, and immaturity lasting so far into the third book reduced him to a most unlikable protagonist. However, once he finally sees the truth, acknowledges his mistakes, and gains the wisdom to accept what he can't change, he shows potential. the elimination of prior adversaries frees him to tackle bigger things in future novels... I hope his apparent growth and maturation proves to be lasting... a backside in the future would be very disappointing

Prof Croft is on the run

Who do you trust when everyone is a monster? Prof Croft has to figure that out while running for his life. This story was good. Definitely action packed and sets up for future plots nicely. Narrator is great

Don't miss!

action-adventure, mage, magic, shifters, werewolves, faerie, snarky, law-enforcement, NYC

Non-stop action in NYC with a deviously twisty plot characterized by a really snarky good guy with a lot of personal problems. Get into the world of NYC politics where the dopey mayor is married to a werewolf and plans a law enforcement campaign to eliminate all of the scary non humans and get a ton of publicity in hopes of winning the next election. What a mess! There are several subplots, surprising twists, and it all adds up to an excellent read!
J.P.Cronin is fantastic as Croft!

Another great one

I enjoyed the first two books and this was another good one. I hope to see Caroline or Vega and Everson develop a relationship in the upcoming installment.

War in the city - great story!

Croft wants to know what happened to his mother and the order is not producing the information fast enough or they might not do it at all. In performing a ritual, he opens a back door to the in between and receives a mild rebuke.

Croft is still jittery mayor Budge, the mayor and Penny, his wife and head of the werewolves. If she wakes up, he and Vega could be in deep shit. While she is in a coma, Croft is Budge’s bitch.

At the college, Snodgrass is still out for Croft to be fired. With only 6 students, that is a possibility.

Threats and betrayal from all sides; vampires, fae, wolves i humans, and Croft is the only one without a game card. He has no support from the wizard council and he still hurting from Caroline’s rejection.

Croft bounces from one foe to another. He is used as a pawn in a complex dance to save the city by eradicating the abnormals. As a pawn, he is championed as a hero and the next move he is sacrificed as the traitor.

Time and time again Croft uses his magic and other resources only to be forced to relay on the most elementary lessons he learned. Force into an alliance with Arnaud, he is imprisoned and betrayed to be used against his city.

Croft is without his sidekick Vega. She feels he has been disloyal through his alliance with Arnaud. Caroline has become more fae and with that more distance and secretive. Where can he go? Lady Bastet’s suggestion was to “Trust in the one your heart trust the least” or was that “Trust in the one you trust the least” one of those will save Croft. The other will damn him.

All his efforts do not evade a war. Now his only choice is to live through it and to mitigate the harm.

Legacy
Now who killed his mother? He is the son of what daddy?
