In Raise The Bar one of Peloton's first UK based instructors, Ben Alldis, tackles mindset, motivation and fitness, and shows you the power of unlocking potential, taking control of your life, and discovering and developing your talents.

Growing up, Ben was an accomplished athlete who was always looking for an opportunity to run, ride, kick a ball or compete. After graduating from university, he went on to work for a prestigious private equity firm in London, but after a pivotal year of battling skin cancer and losing one of his family members to illness, he decided to take the jump and follow his dream of helping others through health and fitness.

Raise The Bar is a narrative motivational book - with practical take homes too - that focuses on lessons and advice about drive, setbacks, defying expectations, support systems and challenging accepted behaviours, all told through stories and insight from Ben, who understands what it takes to set and achieve personal goals and who motivates others daily to do the same.

Using the principles behind maintaining a healthy mind and body, Ben wants to show you how to live beyond your limits right now and lay a positive foundation for your future self.

Ben never disappoints on the bike or mat…and he doesn’t with this book

I just finished listening to Ben Alldis’ FIRST book, and I am feeling sad and emotional that it’s over. As a member of Ben’s Peloton Army and a devotee of all things Ben and Leanne, LOL, it was an amazing thing listening to him speak about his life in such a vulnerable, honest and introspective way. As a 67 year old woman, I have probably moved past some of the advice he gives for finding your passion in work, and how to manage when you find yourself in a position perhaps not suited for you. Thinking back to my years of working; I wish I’d had this book back then to help me navigate it. Ben’s way of accepting that not everything is going to be the perfect fit, or that we aren’t always going to stay focused on our fitness and health, helped me feel that during those times for me, I wasn’t losing, I was learning. And if you open yourself up to learning and exploring, the opportunities can be there waiting. I love that Ben never lost sight of his family, of the support he always had there. I appreciated his honesty with his boss when things weren’t going so well. And I relished the parts in the book where fitness became important to him as a way of de-stressing, and eventually so important that he started teaching classes! I think I like that part because I knew listening that Peloton was just around the corner!

The tools Ben provides for helping to determine your goals, perspectives and what makes you tick are so vital to someone’s journey and I can see they would help give a framework and a touchstone as the journey toward those goals progresses.

Vulnerability and candidness. During the covid world shutdown, Ben is honest about how that affected him, how his nutrition faltered, and how challenging it was when the world began to open up, yet the fear and discomfort of stepping back out into it was so real. We all felt that, and he expressed it so well.

Learning more about Ben’s cancer journey was an eye opener, and inspiring as well. To know how frightened he was, ,yet determined to beat it…that is I know, half the battle. And Ben had again provided something real to people facing a health challenge.

The Epilogue…my tears flowed. Danielle’s untimely passing at what was to be the best day of their lives, Leanne’s immeasurable grief, followed by a breast cancer diagnosis for her, with all the trappings of chemo and radiation, my heart was overflowing with hurt for them both. My own experiences with grief helped me to connect with Ben and Leanne so personally. Reading this, and to recognize that perhaps they had what I don’t…an indomitable spirit and resolve. I like that a lot. And I’m proud of all they’ve accomplished.

To Ben….I will listen to this book again and read it when it arrives in California (where I had the joy of meeting you in Santa Monica!). I think a second read will cement some of the things you discussed, and will help frame my own patterns of decision making and goal settings, even at my mature age!

I will treasure these seven plus hours of hearing Ben’s voice relay some wise and sound words. And, I am grateful that I, as a Peloton member, get to enjoy the outstanding coaching that Ben provides along with hearing little life tidbits now and then to make us take pause and just listen to what’s around us.

Thank you, Ben. You did a great thing!

Honest and inspiring.

Very inspiring book. As a Peloton member I’ve enjoyed listening to Ben’s story and hearing how he has worked towards gaining confidence to become a top Peloton coach. As he says to have a positive attitude and being as prepared as one can be to accomplish a happy and healthy life is worth the dedication to yourself for your love ones. Life isn’t always easy to figure out but a positive attitude will carry you a long way.

An enjoyable/useful read for all!

This book is fantastic. A great combo of personal narrative and usable advice/guidance for anyone - any where, any age, Pelotoner or not. Hearing Ben read his book was extra special, his ability to make you feel like he’s speaking directly to you, learning with you goes beyond his classes and is so comfortably and confidently evident in this book.

What can’t Ben do?!?

This was a smashing first book and I’m so excited to see what comes next. Ben your thoughtfulness, character and competence rivals the great words and advice from the likes of the Stephen R. Covey, Stephen M.R. Covey and Adam Grant. Well done!

Very Inspiring

I had never heard of Ben Alldis or taken a Peloton Class but saw this in my Audible recommendations and purchased the audiobook. I enjoyed hearing this guy's story in his own words and voice and feel like I got to know a new friend. His words of encouragement and advise on fitness and nutrition as well as just being open to whatever life brings are very inspiring.

Peloton coach and motivational coach

Since Ben began at Peloton, I have had the privilege to his coaching. After finally meeting him in person at PSNY, I knew I had to read his book. Ben crafts his story with a motivational and mindset perspective. The pages told the story with transparency and a human centered approach. So many key points that I will revisit.

You didn’t get this far to only come this far

As an avid Ben Alldis #Bensarmy Peloton disciple I couldn’t wait to listen to this book. What an honor to hear the story of Ben’s experiences and values that made him the incredible instructor he is today on the Peloton Platform. He is consistently methodical, driven and a true inspiration. This book is raw and resonates with those of us who are constantly striving to be the best and healthiest version of ourselves.
