Sport psychologist Dr Josephine Perry spends her life working with exceptional performers. She has identified ten psychological pillars that the ultra-successful have ingrained within their approach. And the good news is that we can all learn these mental building blocks.
In this book you’ll hear those who have excelled in their field discussing their route to success and learn how you can emulate them. A sense of belonging, mastery, autonomy, purpose, confidence, process, courage, optimism, internal insight or gratitude – all these skills can be vital in helping us overcome setbacks that can stand in the way of achieving our goals.
From the double Olympic champion who is passionate about collaboration, to the James Bond Stuntman who has cultivated courage, to the Ironman athlete who harnessed the power of gratitude, each case study demonstrates how we can turn a pillar into a superpower. Illuminating and inspiring, The Ten Pillars of Success will give every listener a roadmap to reach their full potential.
Features interviews with: Dame Kelly Holmes, Maxine Peake, Sean Conway, Damian Hall, Emma Wiggs MBE, Caspar Berry, Bobby Holland Hanton, Drew McOnie, Lucy Gossage and Sara Pascoe.

Define Success Is Key

Taking themes of performance psychology and positioning them in real world settings across a range of settings makes this enjoyable, light hearted and accessible. Most importantly, not just for sports people! It seems obvious in hindsight but ‘performance’ can be found everywhere and these concepts are just as applicable in every setting. At work, on stage, even cooking dinner for your family.
This is a meta analysis that has been packaged for everyone to understand and, potentially, find something of themselves hidden inside.
Don’t read it if you want definitive answers. Do read it if you want to understand a little more about what makes people ‘tick’.
Performance psychology for all.

The 10 Pillars of success is a cookie cutter, positive self-help psy-pop that would have been better if it were written in the 80s.
It’s at best a collection of motivational stories that does very little to dive deep into the root of what makes someone successful or how to navigate the complexities of life to become successful.
Nothing in the book was new, refreshing, or delivered in an interesting way. I really don’t enjoy leaving critical reviews but I hope the author really sinks into the subject and pulls out some real insights to success in her next book and leave this one behind.
Nothing new or groundbreaking

Dr. Perry's writing is beautifully (and conveniently) accessible such that I find myself wanting to take notes on her style, write down quotes, and somehow tag the content for future use. I've even found myself pausing and rewinding the book regularly in order to relive (or write down) particularly insightful ideas and concepts. The author and interviewees' honesty is refreshing, and the audiobook format is made for this type of work. Overall, this audiobook is a wonderfully executed guide to life and success, written with precision and passion, that is brought to life through the narration and interviews. As a psychologist and neuroscientist, I'm incredibly glad to have stumbled upon this gem and plan to share it widely.
