Publisher's summary

Holly Dent is one overworked Reaper. After receiving orders from the Reaper's Guild, she's arrived in the beautiful Nocturne Falls for her next assignment - to assist the passing of one Max Hyland. She quickly realizes he's devilishly handsome, wickedly charming, and immortal. Immune to her magic, he has only one real power - not dying!

Careful with his heart, Max is resigned to remaining alone for all eternity - until the beautiful Reaper appears on his doorstep. Even though she's bent on helping him pass from this life to the next, he can't help wanting to learn more about her.

Torn between her growing affection for Max and completing her assignment, Holly calls upon her old mentor for help. However, as she and Max become closer, she learns that her former teacher has plans of his own, for taking the soul of an immortal gives a Reaper great power - enough to destroy the Guild once and for all. Holly and Max must find a way to defeat him, for, if they fail, Max's life is forfeit. Magic, intrigue, and romance ensue - when it comes to reaping the immortal....

Tired of listening to stories about humans? Consider the werewolf! Taking various forms over the course of centuries and mythologies, often as flesh-devourers, werewolves now commonly appear in fantasy and romance novels as shape-shifters. The shape-shifting element in werewolves' stories has almost humanized them, depicting the internal struggles we all face within ourselves, on some level or another.

not bad

the biggest problem with this book is that the town and people we know and love where not a part of it. the biggest part of a eu to me is the meshing of the places and people. all the shorts and full books do that in a masterful way. still worth listening to.

Loved it

How sweet this story was. I loved the difference between Reaper Girl and her mentor. Two very different perspectives on “reaping” made for an engaging romance! I was worried about Max at the end, that old mentor was mental, crazy as a loot! BJ is one of my favorite narrators so it goes without saying that the narration was on point!

Not quite as good as the main stories

All Nocturne Falls stories have a central conceit, in that 2 people meet and are irresistibly drawn to each other, then things happen, and the story doesn't resolve itself until the lovers admit their feelings and overcome whatever outside force that is threatening to ruin their happiness. Here, I feel this was "turned up to 11", and overdone.
I actually like this aspect of the series. Usually.
Then again, right now I a m loving the Jayne Frost series, and it has an entirely different flavor, since Jayne is stuck in her affections between 2 very different men.
Anyway, the 2 main characters being irresistibly drawn together felt annoying here.
Maybe too much of a good thing?

Review

Great addition to the NF series. Hope she will do more and weave in other NF characters in.

Fantastic!

WOW! The author captured the essence of the Nocturne Falls series, and wrote an amazing story. For lovers of the series, this book is a must-have in the library.
And what about the narrator? As always, he did a spectacular job. You can't help but fall in love with this book.

Reaping the Immortal

Very disappointed in the book. I can only describe it as a Harliquin Romance novel. Boring, repetitive and not like any of the other Nocturne Falls book, which I've read every book. I feel like I wasted a credit.

Needed a bit more research...

Overall I enjoyed this audiobook. B. J. Harrison gave a fine performance as always. There was one issue with the story that I could not get past. The fact that Artemis is not the goddess of strength, but the goddess of hunting, the wilderness and wild animals. Overall I still recommend this book/audiobook.
