About this listen

In this hope-filled approach to spiritual and personal growth, the 12 Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous are uniquely interpreted to speak to everyone seeking a freer and more God-centered life. This special rendering makes them relevant to those suffering from specific addictions - alcohol, drugs, gambling, food, sex, shopping - as well as the general addictions we wrestle with daily, such as anger, greed, and selfishness. Rami Shapiro describes his personal experience working the 12 Steps as adapted by Overeaters Anonymous and shares anecdotes from many people working the Steps in a variety of settings. Drawing on the insights and practices of Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism, Taoism, Hinduism, and Islam, he offers supplementary practices from different religious traditions to help you move more deeply into the universal spirituality of the 12 Step system.

Insightful, very valuable content

Very insightful, and helpful content for my recovery. Helps to put the pieces together for me - makes common sense of the steps, and artfully explains what each step is truly attempting to accomplish. I’m pretty good at overcomplicating anything - this book helps break it down simple. It is now one of my trusty go-to tools for my program. Thank you for sharing your wisdom and loving guidance with the rest of us Rami!

Definitely a worthwhile read or listen by anyone interested in their spiritual journey.

Very informative. Author touches on many religious disciplines in such a way that makes the complicated simple. Although there were parts I disagreed with, I learned much and got a new perspective on many issues.

Excellent

This book made me realize that I need to go to 12 step and I’m happy for that. Thank you.

Great for 12 Steppers

I really loved how the author included all different types of spiritual beliefs (including atheism) in relation to each step.

Positive Recovery

This follows the basic 12 steps in a really beautiful and positive way. I think that we all can learn a great deal from 12 steps and this is a great intro into that world.

A must read!

Great book. I read it a few years ago and decided to get the audio. The audiobook was awesome.

Good addition to 12 step work

The readers voice sounds like South Park characters resulting in a funny listen to an actually really great spiritual book that is a very helpful take and study on the 12 steps. Helped me dig deeper spiritually and mentally on the steps. The author is a religious studies professor so it has different spiritualities and takes on spirituality and theology.

Excellent book, poor mechanic reading

One can set up Siri to read books this way - without paying an extra cent. The narrator seem to be void of any emotion or interest in the subject he is reading.
