About this listen

High above the blood- and mud-soaked trenches, a young girl pits herself against army mages in high stakes aerial duels with bullets, spells, and bayonets. Her name is Tanya Degurechaff and she is the Devil of the Rhine, one of the greatest soldiers the Empire has ever seen!

But inside her mind lives a ruthless, calculating ex-salaryman who enjoyed a peaceful life in Japan until he woke up in a war-torn world. Reborn as a destitute orphaned girl with nothing to her name but memories of a previous life, Tanya will do whatever it takes to survive, even if she can find it only behind the barrel of a gun!

Fantastic

Having Monica Rial narrate was an amazing choice, since she was the voice actress for the English language version of the anime.

Story is great

My only gripes are with reading footnotes in the same tone, quickly unnecessary for a complete story telling.

Marvelous

I have the physical copies of the book, but found it difficult to read for whatever reason. This was sublime, and I highly recommend it.

Loved It

An amazing book for an amazing show. I enjoyed every second of the book, and I hope the next volume will not disappoint.

Lives up to expectations

This story is such a wonder. And it's made better with Monica Rial as the narrator and the voice of Tanya.

only down side is waiting for more

A truly excellent book worth getting and absolutely worth listening to. I love the detail and expanded story to the anime.

Anime still better but

The anime still much better and action packed but
This book actually gives you more insights about the events of the anime And the fact that is monica real the VA who voiced Tanya in the anime is just better
I recommend this book if you like the anime but felt like there should be more to the story

Better details then the anime

The anime was a fun watch, but listening to how things go about with more detail seems more engaging.

Surprisingly great story!

Really enjoyed this!

It's great to hear the same VA for Tanya from the English dub of the anime.

Surprisingly good

As someone who hasn’t read the manga or watched the anime, I was skeptical about this book. Many of the reviews referenced one, the other, or both and how good or bad the audiobook version was in comparison. But I’m surprised at how much I enjoyed the story. Much of the military jargon sailed right over my head, so it’s nice that they took the time to explain the concepts referenced.

The performance was also amazing as well. Though having a professional anime dub voice actor does help. Monica Rial’s acting gives off that perfect sadistic drill sergeant while still sounding like she’s not old enough to drive.
