Publisher's summary

In this powerful novel, William W. Johnstone tells the story of a young Missourian forced by fate and violence into lawlessness - where he sees a chance to right the wrong that shattered his family and his soul....

Smoke Jensen is a young man raised on loss and bitterness, nurtured by a mountain man named Preacher. Now, Smoke Jensen, with a new black horse and an old grudge, slips over the unmarked border into the turbulent Idaho Territory. Ahead is a town called Bury, built on stolen gold, and run by a band of ruthless men who had a hand in the murder of Smoke's brother in the Civil War. Smoke's father died in pursuit of those killers, but urged his son not to waste his life on vengeance....

Swift, powerful, and poetic, Return of the Mountain Man is an action-packed tale by William W. Johnstone, an American master - and a great chronicler of our harsh and often unforgiving last frontier.

Contains mature themes.

I enjoyed this book. I liked Smokes ' mountain men friends and the revenge trail he took to get justice for the murder of his family.

Buck West on the Revenge Trail!

Smoke now called himself Buck West and was looking to settle scores. After the shootout at the Silver Camp near Uncompahgrehe, was a wanted man. His wife Nicole, baby son Arthur, and supposedly his mentor Preacher had been killed in a Range War between Potter, Stratton, and Richards. Smoke, or Buck, rode towards Bury, Idaho. He had put up his Appaloosa Silver in a small canyon and rode a black stallion named Drifter. The word had traveled and many old mountain men had heard that Smoke was on the revenge trail. A dozen or so famous mountain men headed to Bury to help Smoke if he needed it. Bury was going to burn, and Potter, Stratton, and Richards were going to hell.

Best Mountain Man listen so far

I was very happy to listen to this with J Rodney Turner reading. In my opinion J Rodney Turner should read ALL of the books that have Preacher in the story
