Publisher's summary

The truth is a weak thing. It has no power. The only power the truth holds is the power we grant it.

The might of nations rises and falls with the same inexorable certainty of the oceans. Powers, unseen and unknown, push and pull with relentless determination. The currents that shape the world are easily ignored, until the waters rise and the people drown.

In the Kingdom of Wahrheit, the tide has turned, and the water is rising.

A new ruler sits upon an ancient throne. Foreign nations, for centuries cowed by the strength of Wahrheit’s dragons and her armies, rise in defiance to throw off the old order. Fae, some thought to be nothing more than myth, stride Wahrheit’s fields and her council chambers. Within the kingdom, there are those who see the disruption as weakness, and weakness as opportunity. There are wrongs to be righted. Blood to be spilled. All in the pursuit of revenge.

There are those who could defy the call and stand against the tide of violence and blood. Six paladins, chosen by Fortune, or so it’s claimed. They are like the moon or the stars—ignorant of the power they exert upon the world. They follow the path chosen for them, and if their passing brings joy or sorrow, they know nothing but their journey.

That is the truth. Their fate. Unless they can shatter the bindings of ancient law and forge a truth of their own.

Fantastic Story and Performance

One of the few series in the last many years where I eagerly await the next book after consuming the series!

And the Plot Thickens

I have added Travis Baldree to my list of favorite narrator s! Mr. Cobble, I would have given book two a 5-star rating except for the transition of point of view from one character to another from chapter to chapter. I was confused at first until I continued with the story and the following chapter. I have pre-ordered book three!

A fantastic sequel

This is Wahrheit book 2, and I enjoyed book one so much that I dove right into this one. Thanks again to the author, as he shared an audible code with me for both.

This book packs a punch. It comes back with a vengeance, it comes back for…REVENGE. The novel itself amps up the author’s previous work in book one; political intrigue, character development, and dialogue. The characters face more betrayals, more twists, more turns. Now they have to deal with greater interference from the fae as well. Will the new Queen rise to the occasion?

This author has such a way with wording combat that the action feels both incredibly vast, yet also personal. You can picture the carnage in the background of battle. You can picture the lines of men ready for action, but then at the same time, he’s actually dialing it down and focusing on a single person within their midst. It’s fantastic, but it’s also my one small gripe with the novel. There simply wasn’t enough. It felt kind of like starting over from the first with a similar buildup, rather than starting on the precipice from the first and opening wide.

Personally still a fantastic read and I cannot wait for book 3. Travis Baldree’s narration is exquisite. A 4/5* for me.

Felt rushed.

Great narration. Second half of the book felt rushed. Thought that the book was out of order. It instead didn’t even get some of the scenes. Didn’t get the first meeting between Jack and his daughter and then Jack is killed off, etc. why rush the book? Could of added an extra hour to the whole book and it could of included things that were skipped. Hope the next book isn’t rushed.

Too many lead characters

This story is like a disappointing meal . Not enough seasoning on the parts you like too much on the parts you don’t. And like someone else said “ it felt rushed” . Buddy that ain’t the half of it . Plus the author wants to do hard magic but also wants light magic . Like “ ooooo the magical beings want to kill your loved ones in exchange for you enemies “ also the author “ hey fam drick my pee and I’ll sprit you away to that guy you want to kill” . So dumb
