Publisher's summary
Welcome to the town of Rising.
A place where everyone knows everyone else.
A place where no one locks their doors.
A place where everyone's worst fears...are about to come true.
"The writing is superb. The characters are believable and sympathetic... the theme of a parent who’s lost a child figures strongly; it’s powerful stuff, and written from the perspective of experience that no one should ever have to suffer." - The Horror Fiction Review

Story
The modern audience hasn't had a chance to truly appreciate the unknowing dread that readers would have felt when reading Bram Stoker's original 1897 manuscript. Most modern productions employ campiness or sound effects to try to bring back that gothic tension, but we've tried something different. By returning to Stoker's original storytelling structure - a series of letters and journal entries voiced by Jonathan Harker, Dr. Van Helsing, and other characters - with an all-star cast of narrators, we've sought to recapture its originally intended horror and power.

Story
They said write what you know so that's what I did. I wrote dirty, I wrote erotic, I wrote the truth. And then they called me a liar. But it's not me who's lying, it's them. Our story isn't for everyone. It's not even for us. So if you're looking for the fairy tale and the stupid prince on his dumb white horse, move along. You've got a hold of the wrong book. This is not your story, this is not your life, and this is not your opportunity to dip your frightened little toe into the dark pool of water and "try new things" and then pull it out and decide... #NotForMe.

Things no man has seen before haunt the woods. Strange animal species creep behind pine trees, some of them with flashing red tags that blink faster and faster. Giant birds mimic the sound of humans and lord over the sky. Leaf-shaped creatures attack anything that moves and flash vivid colors across their glistening backs.

Story
State Road 177 runs along the Suwannee River, between Fargo, Georgia, and the Okefenokee Swamp. Drive that route from east to west, and you'll cross six bridges. Take it from west to east, and you might find seven. But you'd better hope not. Titus and Melanie Bell leave their hotel in Fargo for a second honeymoon canoeing the Okefenokee Swamp. But shortly before they reach their destination, they draw up to a halt at the edge of a rickety bridge with old stone pilings, with room for only one car....

Great book except for the virtual voice
I'm really into this genre and I thought the writing was great, the story was unique and kept me engaged. The virtual voice is why I took away some stars though. I have a pretty good imagination and was able to conjure up the feelings that were lacking in the awkward narration. I think this is worth a try, even if you're against fake narration.

Rising Fears
This is a great book. I wish a human narrator was available to really get the scares across with human inflections. Loved the story will read more of this author.

Very Stephen King like!
The automated voice does not have as much inflection at a good reader, but it’s better than a poor reader. I like Stephen King, and bet if you like Stephen King you will like this book as well.

Great story
While the AI voice dragged at points, it didn't take away from the story. The main characters were well developed and the listener identifies with them, but even the secondary characters resonated.
