About this listen

In a world of shadows, anything is possible - except escaping your fate.

Ever since she was a child, Ivy has been gripped by visions of strange realms just beyond her own. But when her sister goes missing, Ivy discovers the truth is far worse - her hallucinations are real, and her sister is trapped in a parallel realm. And the one person who believes her is the dangerously attractive guy who's bound by an ancient legacy to betray her.

Adrian might have turned his back on those who raised him, but that doesn't mean he can change his fate, no matter how strong a pull he feels toward Ivy. Together they search for the powerful relic that can save her sister, but Adrian knows what Ivy doesn't: That every step brings Ivy closer to the truth about her own destiny and a war that could doom the world. Sooner or later, it will be Ivy on one side and Adrian on the other - and nothing but ashes in between.

Great Listen, but was it YA or not?

I loved this book and can’t wait for the next in the series to come out. I love Jeaniene Frost’s writing and haven’t read (or listened) to a book I didn’t like. However, I can see why many people (even her diehard fans) were turned off by this particular one. There isn’t much “steam” to this one and it’s relatively PG compared to her other books. It’s definitely more of a YA listen than an adult PNR book. However, I do love YA and by its own merits this was a great story. I am hopeful this series will “mature” along with the main character, Ivy. Overall I would recommend this one if you like Ms. Frost's books and try not to compare it to Cat and Bones.

what was up with the narrator?

How could the performance have been better?

the narrator was way over acting and her voice was grating my nerves almost the whole book

Gonna be a great series

If this book is any indication of how great this series has the potential to be.... Then I'm in on every one!!!! I also love Tavia Gilbert and her narrations 100%... I have listened to all of Jeanine Frost's works that Tavia has narrated and she is amazing with voices/ accents and feeling.... Will definitely listen to others!!!

Beautiful Ashes

I like this book, still getting a feel for the characters but the storyline is ok! I like a bit more action and romance so far the story is still building and I am hanging on for something more between Ivy and Adrian. So it was a great distraction looking forward to the next read! 👍🏾

Love Jeanine Frost and Tavia Gilbert not the book

I must confess that I can't listen to Tavia Gilbert without thinking of the night huntress series. My major sticking point with the story is the religious aspect which I typically like to stay away when reading for fun. So although I got thru the story quickly and overall I enjoyed it and will not pursue the rest of the series. I'll stick with the night huntress series.

The good and bad

So the writing style and narration was good. I wanted to shake some sense into the main character who turns against her alias in an emotional whiplash of nonsensical distrust. The author need to develop the emotional change and justify it better because as is it makes the character seem emotionally immature which is unlikable.

Slow start but strong finish.

I thought I would not care for this book because it started out slow but as I listened to it it I was more and more into it. Loved how it ended and would like to hear the next one.

Like the story

I had a hard time with the narrators breathy voice. Her style when the character was frightened or upset was too high and whiney for me. I had a hard time feeling for her. Once I got used to it I was able to enjoy the story more. Honestly, I may just purchased the following books to read.
