About this listen

A young heroine learns that, when you hide in the shadows, something darker may be waiting there for you . . . as the fantasy adventure saga continues.

Having discovered her true heritage, young Gatina is embracing her evolving role as an apprentice shadowthief. It turns out procuring things that don’t actually belong to you can be rather exciting. But the first thing a good thief must learn is how to not get caught. If the evil usurper Count Vichetral snares Gatina or her beloved family, a truly unpleasant fate awaits.

So her defiant father has deposited Gatina and her brother in the last place Vichetral’s men would think to look for them: stately Palomar Abbey. Under the alias of Maid Avorrita of Dentran—a purposely dull, bucktoothed maiden studying to be a novitiate—Gatina quickly comes to enjoy her new life among the elite. And then the trouble truly begins . . .

When Gatina’s father takes her along with him to Inmar to meet a fence who can handle their stolen goods, they discover a new threat to their Shadow Council: the checkered-cloaked Royal Censorate of Magic, dedicated to the ruthless enforcement of centuries-old laws pertaining to the use of magic. Later, Gatina’s dormant rajira unexpectedly emerges at the abbey, and she’s secretly tutored in shadowmagic by the mysterious Lady Silva.

What Gatina doesn’t realize is that very soon she’ll need every trick in her secret book. For a sinister new threat has arisen, one that will doom any who oppose its growing power. While Minalan the Spellmonger toils in distant lands to save humanity, Gatina must prove her skills in steel, sorcery, and the stars in order to save herself, her family, even freedom itself, by pulling off the ultimate SHADOWHEIST!

The Spellmonger: Legacy and Secrets trilogy introduces a younger Gatina, Kitten of the Night, as she comes into her own as a shadowmage.

Review of Shadow Heist part 2

All of the stories were quiet entertaining and you can't wait to continue to the next story. I like that.

kitten's inability to do as her parents requested.

loved the story, the narrator is great, but I will just have to step on my soap box for a moment - if you have several different narrators performing stories in the same universe/series then the producers really, really have to get the pronunciation or names and places consistent across all books. It hits me like a hammer in the head every time I hear a different pronunciation....
just my pet peeve maybe, but it irks me enough to write this much in a review.
The story is still great the the narrator is the right choice for this story , and i don't regret getting the book and enjoyed listening to it.

Great background creating story

I love the main storyline, and I really enjoyed Minnerlands apprentice's time away for their education.

This is essentially the same story but with heists and subterfuge rather than combat strategy.
This was definitely worth the listen and should help tide me over a bit before the next release. I would especially recommend this series for a younger and potentially female audience, but I think there is a natural progression into the main series from there.

A great entry in a standalone series...

Fiona was absolutely astonishing here. Aside from a few instances where pronunciations differed from the main story her emotional depictions, especially towards the end, were phenomenal.

Love Fiona's Narration

The story was great, however, even though the narration was very good the miss pronounced words were a severe distraction and sometimes very irritating. Where was the publisher???

Yet Another incredible installment in one of my favorite fantasy book series of all time.

Amazing!!!!

A good sequel to a good book from a semi-interesting perspective. Personally, the narrators inability to properly pronounce certain words grates on my ears.

Story is good. Narrator isn't.

Terry Mancour continues to put out great books to enjoy. This was just a pleasure to go through and see more detail to this world be revealed. I would recommend this to anyone.
