This is the middle book, so I'm assuming you've read enough of Brent Weeks to know that he is a phenomenal author. The content of the book is wonderful (except for Elene being an idiot, but there are excuses for that in the plot). I've listened in the past to Simon Vance, and think he's a talented narrator, but I hate one big thing he does in this book; When the narrator shortens Viridiana, he pronounces her name as "Vie".

4 star story, 3 star narration.

this is a very good sequel. the first book is also good but suffers from a bit too much emphasis on edginess that borders unbelievability there is a good way to do this and the second book succeeds in that way.

Great grim dark story! If you like that genre, this is for you. Assassins, magic, love, betrayal - it has it all!

Fantastic Trilogy

I read these over a decade ago and I had forgotten how good Brent Weeks is at writing and adding twists. I also love Simon Vance, if only I could convince him to narrate my dreams.

Forgot how good these are

Audible lists this a book 3 but it is actually book 2 so listen to book 1 first. A continuation of book one, this continues to be a good story. The narrator does a great job.

Good But Long

The world, characters, and magic are so interesting. At some points it is a mystery, and at others a horror story. Sometimes it's a love story and others a classic fantasy story. The series has everything. Narration is great!

I love this series

other than the graphicness, the story is just brilliantly written. I think I like it because it seems so realistic, in the sense that the ups and downs don't seem to armor the plot as much as they are just part of the story.

really good

I love the way Brent Weeks ratcheted up the tension and stakes. I wanted the characters to have time to rest but he just wouldn’t let them get their respite. It was for the better.

Perfect
