About this listen

His best friend's little sister is not an option.

No one ever accused Beckett Loew of being the nice Loew brother, especially not Sunny Du Jardin.

Stuck back home in the quirky town of Friendship, Rhode Island, Beckett is scrambling to save his family's oyster bar and take care of his teenage brother. He doesn't have time to deal with the beautiful, sunshiney owner of the new cafe next door, too. His best friend's little sister may be all grown up, but Sunny's still a distracting pain in his side.

No one expects much from Sunny Du Jardin, especially not Beckett Loew.

She's not worried about her older brother's tall, dark, and broody best friend or the battles he insists on waging with her every day. She's not the same kid he teased years ago. Now, she composts his type for breakfast.

They're all wrong for each other. Complete opposites. Off-limits.

Except they can't keep their hands off each other.

They tell themselves it's nothing more than a steamy summer fling until secrets spill and real trouble comes their way.

For mature listeners.

All the stars!!!!!

I loved absolutely everything about this book!! The characters, the story, the love, the steamy moments....ALL OF IT!!! Brilliant excellence in audio with perfect casting and wonderful performance by both Jason Clarke and Christine Lakin. Jason is my favorite, but Christine is new to me and I look forward to more. Loved it so much I just finished and I'm listening again!

Perfect 🤩

Shucked is the book of Beck and Sunny. This is a brother’s best friend/enemies to lovers story.

I did not want this book to end!

I wish Friendship, Rhode Island was a real place!

The narrators did a phenomenal job of capturing the characters and the story!!

4.5 Stars

When Beckett Loew returns to his hometown of Friendship, Rhode Island his plan is to keep his family restaurant running while trying to figure out a way to get his parents out of legal trouble. He doesn’t have time to deal with Sunny Du Jardin, her quirky friends or the vegan cafe she has opened next door to his oyster bar. But somehow she is all he can see no matter how hard he tries to ignore her.

Beckett & Sunny are enemies to lovers goals

When Jason teased this on instagram awhile back I knew immediately I wanted to purchase. Jason is an insta-buy for me, and the fact that it was a Kate Canterbary book….and the start of a new series was all I needed to know.

Jason is Beckett and captures his energy with equal parts boss-mode and swoon-worthy brother’s best friend vibes. He’s 8 years older than Sunny and when he comes back into town to dig his family’s oyster restaurant out of some big trouble, his collision with Sunny has the makings of enemies to lovers bliss.

Christine Lakin is new to me and I enjoyed her as Sunny so very much. I love the tone of her voice (her and Jason are a fantastic pairing) and her accent work as the varied female characters was distinct.

I really enjoy stories that take time to develop the structure of the plot and characters and Kate does this well. It is a slow-burn, and when the spice hits…
😮‍💨😮‍💨. When he wants her to read spicy scenes to him as they explore each other. Deliciously done.

Both characters show tremendous growth and I couldn’t imagine this story told through any other voice actors. Chapter 31 is one of my favorites — it encapsulates all of Jason’s talents. I will be seeking Christine out as a narrator more often too…. She is so versatile in this story.

I have a yen for oysters

So so good. Friendship just keeps getting better and better and can hardly wait for the other Lowe Brothers and characters from town to pull up a stool or start shucking oysters.

Loved Shucked.

This is one of those books that grabs my attention from the first chapter and every time I have to stop to deal with real life a groaned would leave me. What an interesting story! Each chapter brings something interesting about the book. The part where Sunny’s parents walked into the hospital room is hilarious, the part where Sunny’s brother finds out about the relationship between his sister and friend, have me in tears. The fight between the Loew brothers about priceless. There are a lot of things I love about this book, it’ll take me too long to list them all. Narrators performance is top tiered. Loved, loved Shucked.

Funny and feely!

I love Kate’s writing and was so happy to go back to the small town of Friendship. With a neighbours, brother’s best friend, enemies-to-lovers vibe, this small-town romance will keep you entertained.

Christine plays Sunny, the co-owner of Naked a new vegan cafe in town who is full of positivity. There’s great epilepsy rep, and Sunny shows us that we don’t need to be ruled by a diagnosis.

Jason is the guy next door, trying to salvage the family oyster restaurant at the same time as falling for his “Storm Cloud.”

This story is full of heart and banter. I do love some good banter, and Kate is fantastic at getting her characters to poke at each other, all while educating us on different life lessons.

So if you are looking for small-town spice with some push and pull, a little suspense, and a whole lot of alpha, pick SHUCKED!

Loved it!!!

I always look forward to a new book from Kate Canterbary and Shuck (The Loew Brothers #1) doesn't disappoint!

I loved the small town of Friendship, RI in her previous book In a Jam and was excited to return to that setting. I love an age-gap romance and throw in top shelf banter, a cast of quirky and interesting side characters PLUS doggos and I'm a happy listener. The dialogue in Kate's books just go to a higher level of awesomeness in audiobook form and Shucked is no exception.

The narration is simply outstanding. Christine Lakin is a new to me narrator and she was amazing. She was perfect for Sunny and created distinct voices for all the other cast of characters. Her male voice was excellent as well. Jason Clarke was his usual top-shelf grumbly self as Beckett.

Overall a great audiobook and well worth a credit
