Publisher's summary

Every summer, superstar surgeon Whitney Aldritch crashes weddings with her best friend. The first one was an accident, though after a decade of dropping in uninvited, they’re masters of their craft. They keep the rules simple, and they never go to bed alone.

Then there’s Henry Hazlette, best man and the best one-night stand of Whit’s summer. She never imagined she’d see him again but now he’s one of her new surgical residents—and completely off-limits. Whitney has staked her reputation on leading the hospital’s new ethics initiative. While Henry is under her supervision, they have to keep it professional. But it doesn’t help that she can’t turn around without running face-first into his offensively broad chest or rubbing up against him in crammed elevators.

Also not helping: the way he smiles at her like he can hear her every not-safe-for-work thought. All they have to do is survive this residency—and the accidental tarot card readings that hit too close to home, a few uninvited houseguests, and the hospital’s hyperactive rumor mill—but only if they’re prepared to bend some rules as the feelings go from just for tonight to get it out of our systems to mine.

The Best Wedding Ever

It’s summer time, the sun is shining, bridesmaids are maiding, groomsmen are grooming and Wedding Crashers are out for the great food and the one night stands!

And then there is Whitney Aldritch and Meri Mercer, they have wedding crashing down to an art. The big secret, the best man is hot, very hot, exceedingly hot and Whitney Aldritch can attest to that, but first she has to get over the fact her “best-man” from the Tahoe wedding just showed up at Mass General and he cohort are about to start their training with guess who? Yup Dr. Whitney Aldritch is his attending physician.

The audio is just as good as the book! In fact narrators Oscar Reyes and Stella Hunter do an amazing job bring Dr. Henry Hazlette and Dr. Whitney Aldritch to life. The funny parts seemed to funnier, baseball game had me laughing and well I can’t use the next scene because I would give a lot away…let’s just say these two narrators did a wonderful job.

As always Kate Canterbary brings her A game with Change of Heart, her narrators did a wonderful job and if you are an audio listener, I say grab this one.

Another winner from Kate!

Whitney has issues trusting that people will stay with and for her because she doubts her worth outside of her career. Henry's had poor relationship examples and never thought he'd find anyone he'd want to commit to.

One fateful wedding complete with a wacky astrology/tarot reading, a memorable one night stand and a major twist of fate that throws them back together will test everything they thought they knew about their status quo. Throw in best friend and sister shenanigans, a whole cast of hospital personnel and this book had me laughing, doing double takes, and swooning. (Seriously, Henry is a complete DOLL!)

I knew when Stella Hunter was announced as the female narrator that this audio was already off to a good start. Oscar Reyes is a new narrator to me so this is my first experience with him and he did not disappoint.

Whitney is a strong, confident woman and one of the best surgeons in her field, but she has some emotional squishy spots that she doesn’t like showing and Stella blended these facets of Whit’s character together brilliantly with her performance.

Oscar leaned into Henry’s always up for a challenge, I can fix anything, golden retriever vibes and showed how determined Henry was to convince Whitney to give them a chance. I especially loved how Oscar handled the interactions between Henry and his fellow cohorts.

This book had appearances by some of my favorite Kate Canterbary characters so I’m a little precious when it comes to those voices, but Stella and Oscar were perfect!

I adored this book and can't wait for more stories to come from the other characters! I always feel at home in Kate Canterbary's stories because her characters feel so real to me. They're every bit as stubborn and headstrong as real people, but in the end they're just like us; trying to find some meaning or sense of connection and maybe a little happiness in the daily minutiae of life.

Change of Heart was absolutely divine!

Whitney and Henry first meet at a wedding that surgeons Whitney and her best-friend Meri crash while on their once-a-year vacation together (that’s their thing) where Henry is the best man. Henry is the probably the furtherest thing from a surgeon she could find in the moment and that’s totally in his favour because she doesn’t want anything to do with her real life. She realises after a night with him that he really is one of the good guys. At least she’ll have the memories because they’ll never see each other again…

But then it turns out that Henry is one of her new residents, that she’ll be his boss and someone she will see everyday for the next two months while he’s doing his transplantation rotation.

Henry has not been able to forget a minute of his time with Whitney… Being on her rotation has him hanging on by a thread, determined not to cross the line for the next 8 weeks, so he trips and stumbles his way through the transplantation rotation. He’s just so impressed by how competent and highly skilled she is, and he notices that she feels absolutely everything in a such a deep and serious way. He notices everything about her, and knows he loves her and will never recover from it. He knows that it’s something that he might have to wait for…

Whitney while professionally is highly skilled and competent, relationships have proved highly complicated for her. Henry always gives her the space she needs… She might need some convincing, because she’s not sure what they had together will be the same, except it turns out it might actually be better than they remember!

What an absolute treat the audiobook dropped before the actual book!!

Wonderful book!!

I loved this book and enjoyed Henry and Whir’s story. The narrators were good, though at times Oscar’s narration felt a little stilted.

I loved this couple

I’ve been a fan of Kate Canterbary’s books for many years and she always develops amazing main characters, but I really loved this couple. Whitney is strong, talented, composed, and always says the perfect thing. Henry is strong, capable of making situations better, popular, but doesn’t always express his feelings. These two complement each other and form a powerful but well-loved couple.

What starts as a chance meeting at a wedding crashed by Whitney and her best friend, Mary, turns into an epic tale of lost love, forbidden romance, and finally true love.

Kate Canterbary has added her wit and humor to these characters as well as her research about medical specialties into this story and has made it something very special. I’m looking forward to other books in this series.

Doctors in love

Whitney & her best friend Meri have a fabulously carefree tradition of crashing weddings on their summer break for adventure & romance. All in good fun & no one gets hurt as long as you follow the rules- don’t outshine the bride, leave a great gift, etc. But most importantly #6- the bridal party is always off limits. Well Whitney throws that rule right out the window as soon as she locks eyes with devastatingly charming best man Henry. They have one unforgettable night together and she sneaks away the next day, never to see poor Henry again. Or so she thought. Months later Henry turns up on her surgical rotation as her new resident. They haven’t forgotten each other but their new work dynamic definitely means hands off! There’s nothing like a bit of forbidden to up the sexual tension and boy do Whitney & Henry have it bad! Henry was an adorable smitten kitten in his pursuit of Whitney. I loved seeing Whitney soften without sacrificing her principles as much as I loved when her badass doctor side came out. It was a rewarding ride to see them overcome their obstacles and get the happy ending they deserve. Found family are often the best family and there are a wealth of interesting secondary & revisited characters to add to their story. I listened to the audiobook and found the narrators engaging especially Stella Hunter.

Absolute perfection!!!

Dr. Whitney Aldritch is a topnotch transplant surgeon. Her life is stressful, not only because of her job, but also her family. So, every summer, she crashes weddings with her best friend, a fetal/neo-natal surgeon. They have it down to a science. One of the rules written in stone is "shenanigans with the wedding party are forbidden". Well, that would've been easy of the best man weren't Henry Hazlette. From looks exchanged during the ceremony to dancing that led to breaking all the rules (and possibly the hotel bed), Whitney has an unforgettable night. And she's a little sad to leave him sleeping in the morning.
Well, well, well... in a Grey's Anatomy-worthy turn of events, who do you think is her new resident on transplant rotation? It would be complicated enough even if she weren't heading the hospital's new ethics initiative to boot.
But everywhere she looks, there he is, with coffee and cupcakes and that smile...
Henry is dumfounded when he sees who the attending is when he shows up for his transplant surgery rotation. It's HER. The woman who has been plaguing his dreams and who he can't forget.
In the midst of of surgical rotations, complicated sisters who required attention, friends who get dumped, the hospital rumor mill, love does indeed find a way into that organ that Whitney was sure was not where we store it.
I am claiming Dr. Hazlette as my book boyfriend! (I do that with all Kate's heroes, but oh my word!) This a LOL Wedding Crashers/Grey's Anatomy mash-up and I loved every minute of it! The chemistry between Henry and Whit is hotter than the sun and the one-night-stand turned into slow burn will singe the pages. And yes, swoon, he falls first!
As usual Kate, touches tough subjects with a delicate hand and you get invested in every single character! If the names Hartshorn, Stremmel, Shapiro, Emmerling ring a bell you are in for a treat. And yes, Henry lives in THAT building!
Dual narration by Stella Hunter and Oscar Reyes, this is an absolute gem as all of Kate’s books on audio.
Stella is amazing as Whit and all the other voices. I was already half in love with Henry but as soon as I heard Oscar giving him voice I was besotted. He portrays the adorable golden retriever doctor with perfection. LOVED LOVED LOVED!!!!!

The heroine being farther along in her career and standing up to old guard

I enjoyed the tension brought by Whit not giving in to Henry while he is on her rotation. Henry’s gifts are sweet🥰 give all the feels.
Meri is an awesome character I love her!!! I had a feeling she was with her wedding date.
I enjoy them being sneaky, it makes it hot and steamy.
When I heard Emmerling’s name I smiled and said ‘yes’ some of my old friends will be mentioned. The 3 roommates story of Thanksgiving made me laugh out loud while I listened to it. I could completely see me me peeing my pants!
Apparently, I enjoyed all of it! 🩷
I love Kate Canterbury’s writing, I get to escape into a place with people I would enjoy being friends with or having as family and they are not perfect!

Everything You Want in a Kate Canterbary Book

Kate Canterbary consistently gives me everything I need and want when it comes to contemporary romance. I savored Whitney and Henry's story both by eyeball read and then by listening to the audiobook.

The audiobook was 4.75 stars overall (story 5 stars, performance 4.5 stars). Stella Hunter really is one of the best of the best narrators out there. She does a great male voice, which is a bonus. In regard to Oscar Reyes, it was a love/hate situation. Initially I didn’t like him as Henry, which surprised me, and spent most of the book not really sure how I felt, flipping between love and hate. Will I listen to more of his work, absolutely. It sounded like he was reading fast and I had to really slow down the speed (under 1x) . It should be noted the he does a pretty good female voice.

Where do I even start with this review. I thoroughly enjoyed every part of this book; the witty banter, the swoony moments, the intelligent writing, strong female characters, a cinnamon roll hero, the diversity of the supporting characters who all play a role in moving the story forward. While the spice is limited due to the slow burn the MCs endure after their initial meeting, the chemistry between Whit and Henry is fire. One of Ms. Canterbary's many talents is her ability to work in diverse characters and approach real world issues that are worked into the storyline, but not shoved down your throat. I always walk away from her books feeling a little smarter and with a little more of an open mind. And the cherry on top, the cameos be Acevedo, O'Rourke, Emmerling, Hartshorn (and Stella), and Stremmel.
