About this listen

My mother's New Year's resolution for me was simple: make a serious effort at putting myself out there and dating again and do it for one full year.

Or, until I fell in love. Whichever came first.

How hard could one year of swipes and matches and awkward first dates be?

In a word: bad.

In nine words: bad and also hilarious, demoralizing, exhausting, and ridiculously amusing.

But the only thing worse than dating in the era of hookup apps and unsolicited dick pics is the absolute whole-life flail of falling in love.

My newest pet peeve is…

Audio version of texting. So freaking repetitive. Story needs to be edited for audio so we’re not forced to listen to stuff like, Dating ap #1, yada, yada, yada. Maggie, yada, Dating ap #1, yada. Maggie, yada, yada. Monotonous. And the story is really slow, considering she’s dating 2 guys. I really enjoyed the Walsh series but this one? Not so much.

Sensational

A great story about a woman who empowers herself to take charge of her relationships. A lot of really good internal conversations from Magnolia. She definitely has that “every woman” vibe.

Great job by Amy McFadden and Tor Thom.

Outstanding in every way!!!

The premise of this story is so simple and it could have become just another RomCom, but let me tell you, this is way beyond that. The characters are so well written!! Kate Canterbary is such a genius at bringing to life characters with so much depth, personality and realism. The journey Magnolia goes through is so relatable but the pace and the writing make this story feel very special. You are going through this journey with her, instead of just being an observer. The banter is classic Kate!! I couldn't get enough of the smart & sassy snark. Also including the beloved characters of the Walsh Series was such a bonus. The narration was the cherry on top of this outstanding story. Amy McFadden is perfection! She has the best pace, tone and brings to life a character that is going through so much and you just want to keep listening. This casting choice was right on the money. I want more stories like these in my life. Well worth the credit and the ride.

No where near as good as Boss between the sheets

If I read this one first, I never would have read another of her books.

Cute and funny

Though it was short, I am not a fan of the narrator, Tor Thom. I don’t get why anyone uses him. His narration at the very end, threw me out of the story. All I could think was, Noooooooo.

The rest of the story was cute and very funny in parts.

Laugh out Loud Funny

As a "happily ever after" romance the story is meh. As a dating in the 21st century romance the book is hysterically funny. Ms. Canterbary really needs to write a book on just that topic. Romance doesn't demand eternal love, it just needs romance in some form. IMHO a happy ending, as opposed to a " happily ever after" ending, would make the sorry a ☆☆☆☆☆

Good not great.

Kate Canterbary is one of my favorites but this book is my least favorite of hers. Not just because there is literally no sex which she does so well. Magnolia is not my favorite character.
