About this listen

My magic powers are junk.

An evil wizard wants me dead*.

My minotaur sidekick is a total nerd.

My task? Save the world without being smashed, blown up, eviscerated, or transformed into a yak. Or roasted alive by the miniature dragon that has taken up residence in my boot*.

My only hope? A magic coat that I inherited from a long-dead magical megadude*. It does 50 cool things, most of them useless. Sure, it can grant me ninja powers, turn me invisible, and make me leap tall buildings. But it only does those things once a day, and only for like five seconds. The rest of the time, it makes a salmon appear in my hand, or turns my tongue into a high-power floodlight, or summons random junk from a pawn shop, or makes me forecast the weather. Sometimes, it summons a brain-dead clone of myself.

Yep. I'm in big trouble...

* In case you were wondering, his magic powers are not junk.

* Miniature dragons, apart from being famously sarcastic, are very temperamental. It's basically small-man syndrome. But with fire. And razor-sharp teeth. In my boot...

*Not a word.

Shortly after Simon joins the powerful ranks of the Circle of Eight, his discovery of an ancient secret at Skelligard castle sends him on a journey of epic proportions. He and his new friends will travel with pirates on a voyage across space toward a destination as dangerous as it is mysterious. Their goal: To find a wizard who has been imprisoned with his secret for hundreds of years. Behind them, a treacherous enemy follows, seeking revenge. Now Simon must harness the capricious magic of the turncoat to save his friends from the danger that lies ahead...and behind...

Author Austin J. Bailey has entertained over 200,000 readers with his bestselling children's books, and his latest work is better than ever. Featuring an endearingly overconfident and hilarious boy genius, Simon Fayter and the Tomb of Rone is the second in a series of five fantasy novels for kids of all ages. This audiobook, like it's predecessor, is full of edge-of-your-seat action and guaranteed to make you laugh, cry, and procrastinate bathroom breaks until the wee hours of the morning. Don't forget to check the footnotes!

Engaging, clever, hilarious

I recommended this series to a friend and used “hilarious” too many times that appropriate to be grammatically correct. And yet that’s just it- the overuse of footnotes to give commentary on grammar, definitions, authors, and language is very funny. And there’s still the engaging story and adventure of Simon who wins the day through many accidents, and his 2 close friends - one of which is a Minotaur. Lastly, it is unusual in my experience that the author is such an adept narrator but this guy sounds like he loves what he wrote and puts his whole narration in letting the reader know how he wants his story to be heard.
A+!!

Simon of course

I have always wished to have an adventure like Simon is experiencing in these books. As a grown man now (kid at heart), how Simon deflects with humor and owns who he is, I can say without a doubt i would react to many of the crazy things in this book the same way…and i love it.
Also a really big fan of the author bloopers at the end, priceless.

Interruptions in the story

I like the story makes it hard. True story is only half of the book comments are the rest and unneeded and frustrating.
