Probably a good book but I'll never know

I love the sirt food diet plan and this is probably a good book on the subject (the only one Audible has as well) but I just can't force myself to endure the narrator's bizzare manner of speech for more than a few minutes at a time. He speaks with odd peaks and valleys, unnatural annunciation and a very non linear, non conversational flow. I'm usually pretty accepting of narrators, and the maybe it's just me, but I just couldn't listen to this guy regardless of my interest in the subject matter.

Great book for improving your health!

What made the experience of listening to Sirt Food: The Secret Behind Diet, Healthy Weight Loss, Disease Prevention & Longevity the most enjoyable?

The narrator by far! I don't usually look that deeply into the science of the things we call foods but I'm grateful that R.Paul Matty was the one doing the speaking.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Well, this wasn't a story where the food was talking, so I'm not so sure this is a fair question. Think I will drink more green tea though.

What does R. Paul Matty bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

If R.Paul Matty would not have been narrating this book I would not have gotten past the first chapter. This is honestly not the type of thing I would pick up and read all the way through. Listening to it though, wasn't like hearing a bunch of scientific terms and numbers. It was easy to picture the foods that are better for you and why, and also those that are not. It did not sound like I was being preached to, rather simply talking about the foods and what is actually in them and the importance of living a more active life... and why.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I'm glad I listened to this audiobook.

I will probably go back to this book on occasion for reference.

Excellent Research and Narration for Health!

Would you consider the audio edition of Sirt Food: The Secret Behind Diet, Healthy Weight Loss, Disease Prevention & Longevity to be better than the print version?

Yes, I would consider the audio edition better than the print version. R. Paul Matty energizes the message on how to be healthy without dieting or starving yourself. He is an enthusiastic and conversational-sounding narrator who obviously has a biology background and can easily enunciate, depict and set the tone for an incredible book! His pace was wonderful along with his explanations of some tough concepts!! With R. Paul Matty’s narration and inflection, it was easy to become engaged as he explained some of the most complex concepts of cellular biology and immunology.

What did you like best about this story?

As a professor of cellular biology and pathophysiology, I found this book absolutely fascinating as I listened to the well-researched and practical explanations of our foods preventing and curing disease. I especially liked how the authors, John Hodges and Ted Gif, took concepts such as ketosis, Sirtuin Activators, oxidative stress, Cox-2 enzyme, homeostasis, obesity and leptin hormone and finally telomers and telomerase to a level that even my mother could understand! I will definitely recommend this audio book to my nursing students!

What does R. Paul Matty bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

R. Paul Matty’s voice is filled with texture and emotion on the health in the biology of eating well and living well. He is energetic, sincere and emotionally connected to his work. Not only does he understand the material, but he also believes in it and that is evident in his narration! Outstanding job!He truly makes it easy to stay engaged and learn about our foods as medicine. He was very inspiring and I could easily visualize the processes taking place in the human body. I was so inspired I shopped that afternoon to add to my SIRT foods! I purchased Kale, Walnuts, Capers, green tea and more medjool dates. I am even testing some recipes from the Sirt Food Diet Recipe Cookbook! Love them!

With narration, it is so important that the narrator not only understands the material but believes in it and is emotionally connected to it. It truly does make all the difference besides the tone, pitch and pace! R. Paul Matty has a gift of inspiring people even when we don't feel inspired! Thank you again for an outstanding text and narration!!! :)
