About this listen

This electrifying, chilling sequel to the New York Times bestselling thriller None Shall Sleep focuses on junior FBI consultants Travis Bell and Emma Lewis with a new case that may unravel everything they’ve been working for.

After a harrowingly close contact with juvenile sociopath Simon Gutmunsson, junior FBI consultants Emma Lewis and Travis Bell went their separate ways: Emma rejected her Quantico offer and Travis stayed to train within a new unit of the FBI Behavioral Science division. But the unit’s latest case is feeling eerily familiar and Kristin Gutmunsson—Simon Gutmunsson’s eccentric twin—reaches out to Travis to send a warning: Emma is in peril.

When Travis and Kristin turn up evidence that points back to Daniel Huxton, the serial killer that Emma had escaped, things become more complicated. With a copycat on the loose, Emma returns to Quantico and is thrown back into her past traumas. Compelled to prevent more tragedy—even if it means putting herself in danger—Emma turns to Simon for help once again. But Simon is keeping secrets that could impact their entire investigation. Will the team be able to stop the Huxton copycat before time runs out for his next victims?

Love the Emma and Travis storyline!!

Also, if I’m being honest, the romance and Simon are all I’m really here for. Emma’s attitude is got old super fast. Her making demands and pouting around is annoying. Her impulsive dramatic behavior and her taking advantage of Travis is a little much. She is constantly putting his career and life in jeopardy. Her having a bad attitude with Carter is bold as heck too. She sucks and she’s the reason for all of the issues. She caused a ton of the problems. Then she has the audacity to put her hand up to him and blame her for everything? I really wish she had more depth as a character and wasn’t just the girl living with her past. Travis deserves better, but since he wants her, I need them to get married or something in the third book. Performance was terrific besides a few words the main VA just can’t pronounce.

Captivating story

The mystery of this one was great and the build up was amazing. The cascade if the sorry towards the end had me on the edge of my seat.

Such a great book, if you enjoyed the first one, the second it a must. The storyline kept me on the edge of my seat the entire book.

The annunciation of Spanish names or words, excessive blasphemy

The story line is good but whoever is reading Travis’s part is terrible at sounding masculine and the annunciation of Guanajuato and other Spanish words are wrong and sounds like a typical white country male instead of the Hispanic background he is supposed to have. The excessive use of GD in the book is not needed and there is a lot of taking the lords name in vain. It makes this book lacking. Creative writing does not have to involve excessive blasphemy a good writer can get the point across without it.

Amazing like always

Ellie does a great job with the characters and story. I've enjoyed both books equally, which is a first for me, as not every book is a 5/5 each time a sequel comes out. Her writing continues to impress me!

Last 1/3 good, but did not stick landing

I loved the first book but the second one as a bit of a let down. The pacing was too slow in the first 2/3 of the book with no payoff for caring about key characters in the last 1/3 such as Kirk. I did like the romance building between Emma and Bell but it dragged on too long and would have been more effective if there was more declaration of their love before that last 1/3 for drama and higher stakes. The cliffhanger was fine but felt so low energy to head into what is presumably the end of a trilogy. I’ll be reading the next book if there is another for sure, but Book 2 just kind of wobbled to an end when it could really have stuck the landing.
