Publisher's summary

From New York Times Bestselling Author Ryan Winfield, a sexy and shocking literary debut.

What would you do if you weren't afraid? That's the question facing young Trevor Roberts as he's being discharged from drug rehab, sure that he's hit rock bottom with nowhere to go but up.

With more twists than California's Highway 1, the intimate narrative follows a young man on a wild month-long ride to the dizzying, drunken heights of Napa Valley excess where he falls fast for his new boss's intoxicating wife and becomes entangled in a strange threesome affair. But things soon begin to unravel as Trevor is drawn into a secret world of sex and scandal, only to have his lust for success drag him down again through a phantasmagoria of hedonistic hell.

"Shocking and unapologetic", South of Bixby Bridge barrels along with the "frenetic pace of a Hollywood blockbuster," delivering" poetic prose loaded with images". With gripping drama, witty dialogue, and sexy, jaw-dropping glimpses into the nouveau-riche underworld of California's wealthy elite, you won't be able to put this riveting new novel down. Buckle up and enjoy the read!

OMG, OMG Be Ready for an Emotional Roller Coaster

I gave this book a chance because of Jane's Melody - that book was amazing and will always stick with me. This book sat in my library for 4 months. It is serious and not a romance but a story of a very tough, very real life and experience of a man. This is narrated by the author and it works - works well. I couldn't stop listening, but was afraid at the same time what was going to happen to Trevor next. I know a couple of alcoholics and for anyone who thinks they can "just stop" think again. There are many things at play and this book is a brilliant, insightful look at that. It is gut wrenching and emotional, but I don't think you'll forget this any time soon. Well worth it! I look forward to Ryan's next books. (Pretty please think about putting Jane's Melody on Audible!!!)

Narration ruins it

I enjoyed this book when I read the paperback version quite some time ago. I couldn't get past the first chapter of the audio version because of the bad narration. Authors don't necessarily make good narrators.

Fair at best

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I couldn't wait for this book to end. While it wasn't the worst book I've read, it was far from the best.

What could Ryan Winfield have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

I found no emotional connection to any of the characters. I realize that a person with a drug/alcohol addiction has no emotiomal connection, however I felt the author should have given us something to have emotion for. I kept waiting for it to happen, and nothing.

Perfect novel to be an audible book

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, of course I would recommend this audio book. The narrative it'self is read very well. I see it as a journey. A true to life journey of one man finding himself and realizing what he really wants in life. Most importantly learning what he doesn't want in his life.

What other book might you compare South of Bixby Bridge to and why?

I find it unique in it's story that you wont find too often in other books.

What about Ryan Winfield’s performance did you like?

This was my first audio book and I thought it would be confusing to be read by one person, but it works wonderfully, since it's told first person. You hear every expression and feeling in his voice. There was a never a doubt about what Trevor is seeing or thinking.

Having read the book about a year ago, it was different this time around. You really hear how lost Trevor is, how creepy Paul can be and how seductive Tara is. I didn't feel that I was listening to a book but listening to the author tell me a story.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Laugh or cry? All the time! Frowns, smiles, tears and laughs, all the time.

Any additional comments?

Wonderful book to be read as an audio book. It's not a pretty story the whole time. You have to see what Trevor goes through to get to his point of addiction, it can't be a pretty story but it's written so well.

movie?

What did you like best about this story?

All the junk they put on tv and in the theatres, and they can't make a movie on a hit book like this!

Blaa, blaa!!!

This was a very unrealistic book for the subject matter, should have been rated bad from the rating I saw. Would never recommend this book to anyone. Don't how it even got on the list of books. Someone must have been paid off!!!
