About this listen

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Luke Skywalker and Lando Calrissian return in this essential novel set between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens.

The Empire is dead. Nearly two decades after the Battle of Endor, the tattered remnants of Palpatine’s forces have fled to the farthest reaches of the galaxy. But for the heroes of the New Republic, danger and loss are ever-present companions, even in this newly forged era of peace.

Jedi Master Luke Skywalker is haunted by visions of the dark side, foretelling an ominous secret growing somewhere in the depths of space, on a dead world called Exegol. The disturbance in the Force is undeniable . . . and Luke’s worst fears are confirmed when his old friend Lando Calrissian comes to him with reports of a new Sith menace.

After Lando’s daughter was stolen from his arms, he searched the stars for any trace of his lost child. But every new rumor leads only to dead ends and fading hopes—until he crosses paths with Ochi of Bestoon, a Sith assassin tasked with kidnapping a young girl.

Ochi’s true motives remain shrouded to Luke and Lando. For on a junkyard moon, a mysterious envoy of the Sith Eternal has bequeathed a sacred blade to the assassin, promising that it will answer the questions that have haunted him since the Empire fell. In exchange, he must complete a final mission: Return to Exegol with the key to the Sith’s glorious rebirth—Rey, the granddaughter of Darth Sidious himself.

As Ochi hunts Rey and her parents to the edge of the galaxy, Luke and Lando race into the mystery of the Sith’s lingering shadow and aid a young family running for their lives.

Fun story. Narrator wasn't a good fit.

The narrator is not bad. he's uo to usual Star Wars audiobook standard 100% But his voice doesn't fit anyone but Lando, in my opinion.

This story was actually surprising. we've been dying for more Luke content after episode 6, and this starts to scratch that itch. I'd love much more from this Era along with other non-skywalker stuff.

But the antagonist isn't the usual Sith. you'll notice what I mean right away, and you won't be disappointed!

good book, suffers from connecting to the movies

The book does well with connecting us to the roots of star wars while also giving us a team up that we haven't had yet in canon novels. We get Luke and Lando. We get force powers beyond the basic push and pull, we get sith artifacts. We also get limited by the movies. Key characters in the book HAVE TO have their interactions and missions go a certain way in order for things to not happen for the first time until they happen in the movies. I would say though that the areas where the book is given more freedom to be world building and Lore enhancing still make it worth the read, and while not changing the movies, it seems to be setting up a better background of circumstances that to me make the movies better already.

incredible Audiobook

This was my first Star Wars audiobook drama and the performance was incredible. Wonderful sound effects and great differentiation between characters. The story was incredible especially considering how modern Star Wars movies have felt. If you want a very good Star Wars read that is Canon, you need to get this book. You will absolutely enjoy it as I did. It was Excellent.

Somehow?

Finally 20 hours to answer some missing pieces in the sequel trilogy. Probably make return of skywalker a bit better.

Star Wars: Shadow Of The Sith

very good pre-quel to The Force Awakens featuring Lando Calrissian, Luke Skywalker, Rey and her parents (and you get a lot more info about who her parents really are).

Also Ochi of Bestoon (who was known to have hunted Rey's parents but who we did not see in action in the films, only his Sith Blade and corpse in The Rise Of Skywalker.

There's also a Sith Mask and an ancient Sith Ghost, exciting stuff and I really listened through the +17 hours in no time as the story was very captivating. I highly recommend this audio-book for any Star Wars fan and you get to see Luke in action and also features a cameo from Ben Solo acting like the spoiled brat that he is.

Makes the sequel trilogy that much worse.

The way this book fleshes out some of Rey’s backstory is done well. It explains why Lando was on Pisanna. What it also does is show how Last Jedi is even more awful. Luke would have know who Rey is when she comes to him based on this book.

Pablo Hidalgo and his story group have to be the most incompetent department at LFL. They’ve supposed to be in charge of continuity issues and they can’t seem to get that right.
